December 30, 2013

I thought I would try to get in one last post before 2013 comes to a close. It's been a busy last week and a half. In fact, when the day I last posted was one of the worst I've had since William was born. I won't go into all the details, but William is definitely a two-year-old and I need to work on my coping skills, lol.

Friday of week before last the boys and I made a third trip to the Aquarium to see all the new arrivals including the jelly fish. William had a blast as usual and even getting pooped on the head by a bird didn't dampen his spirit (he didn't even notice!). Friday evening Francis's parents came into town and Saturday morning we started the Phillips' family Christmas!

My mother-in-law and I went and bought food for fondue first thing and then she and Francis went to sell his car at a nearby dealership. Why, you ask? Because Francis got a new car for Christmas!!! I bought his dad's old car (a 2011 Mazda 6 Grand Touring) and Francis is now riding high and sitting awesome. We got a good deal too, which is icing on the cake. Anyway, Francis's sister Cyndy and her family came into town in time for lunch (Fondue!) which took the majority of the afternoon as well as opening presents. We got a lot of wonderful things, but William and Robert won't get their big gift from the grandparents (both sets) until probably March. They will be getting a Playset for the back yard. Even so, there was no shortage of gifts, love and family. It was a wonderful day that ended with driving through the Rockin' Round rock lights. Couldn't have asked for more!

Sunday, Francis, William, Robert, the dogs, and I made the 7 hour journey to Brownfield. It was a long day, but a resounding success. I have two good car babies! My grandparents (Mom and Pop) were glad to see us, and Monday they gave William a taste of farm life. Pop took the boys, Francis and me out to his friend's farm where william was able to ride in a four wheeler and DRIVE a tractor (he had some help, don't worry). Then we went down the road and saw the pigs and cows. It was a day William will talk about for year to come! The rest of my family (mom, dad christian, danielle, Aunt Camille and Chad) came in Monday afternoon an Christmas Eve Day. Tuesday night we all took pictures and attended the Christmas Eve service where the "Noble, Phillips and Drake singers" sang Hark the Herald Angels Sing on stage while William danced and Robert slept in Francis's arms. We were adorable. Afterward we had dinner, read the Christmas story and opened gifts. William and Robert cleaned up a second time. They got so much stuff! Of course the stuff doesn't matter; memories are priceless and many good ones were made. Robert's first Christmas was a good one! He had to change a bunch of times to wear all his Christmas clothes, but he didn't mind one bit. He was all smiles! Christmas day we had a feast of all feasts and then almost everyone feel asleep in a food coma. William got to feed the ducks at the pond and then after he went to bed, we played a competitive game of marbles. (We are the champions, my friend!)

Thursday we headed home and unloaded our overloaded Escape (with hitch hauler and roof rack too). the boys were good again, but William was ready to be home by the end. Friday Francis worked and I tried to get the house in order and got Francis new car fixed (the mirror got messed up in all the excitement). Oh and Robert started wearing 9 month clothes. He's getting so big I can't keep his closet updated fast enough. He'll be in and out of these before I know it!

Saturday we spent some time shopping at the mall to get clothes for everyone and after lunch everyone took a (much needed) 3 hour nap/rest. Yesterday after church my in-laws came up to have lunch and get a couple of things from us. It was fun to spend some unexpected time with them. They even helped move our huge TV downstairs to the garage so we can get rid of it and have more room for the boys' toys. That thing was not getting used and taking up a good part of the room.

Today a strange thing happened at HEB. I noticed a woman when I came in wandering around the store with no cart and not looking at any items. I saw her a couple of times while I was there, but she never had anything in her hands. When I went to check out, she wandered out of the store with nothing after shopping for over an hour. I said something to the cashier who alerted the manager. Then the woman wandered back in. The employees think she might have Alzheimer's and were going to gingerly confront her when sh came around again to make sure she was alright. They were very glad I said something, and I am too. Wasn't sure how to handle it...

Well, I'm needed, so this is the short version of what I'd really like to write. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December 19, 2013

Amidst my flurry of frantic house cleaning, I write this entry. The presents are wrapped and under a tree (not all of them are under mine), and after I finish cleaning, I can finally relax. I don't enjoy the Christmas shopping. Gift giving is not my love language (as evidenced by the fact Francis and I forget to get each other anniversary gifts every year until after the fact), so I love it when someone gives me a list of things they want. It proves to me that I am serving them in some way by giving them something they will actually use. My main love language is quality time so I am nearly giddy over this coming weekend and week where we will get to spend time with our families and love on them. I hope to be able to enjoy every moment.

Last weekend, Danielle (my baby sister!!!) graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a Bachelors in Education. As I watched her cross the stage, I choked up a bit with pride. I truly have an amazing family. Well, to get to graduation, we had to drive from Austin to Abilene and back in one day. It was a lot of driving to say the least, but we made it in about 13 hours.  A second highlight of this trip was seeing Rebecca B and meeting her little boy Jonas. Jonas is 3 days younger than Robert, so it was fun to swap babies as we caught up on each other's lives. It was a good long day.

Monday Francis took off work and took William back to aquarium so I could clean the upstairs of our house. I worked like crazy, but finally feel like I have a handle on things. Robert and I met Francis and William for our little family "christmas" dinner at Longhorn steakhouse where they inevitably got my steak cooked very wrong and my meal was free. The steak was delicious once they fixed it. Francis and William had a great time together too. William even got to feed a shark! All in all a good day.

Angel and Ranger joined us at the Little Gym this week. The boys had a great time and afterward, we all had Chick-fil-a for lunch. It was fantastic! Wednesday, we had out last MOPS meeting of the year and heard a speaker from the Austin Pregnancy Resource center about what is going on with their organization and in Austin as a whole. Her words were encouraging!

William is always thinking. Yesterday I told him he could have a cookie if he washed his hands (they were dirty from outside). He did so, got the cookie and ate it. He then told me his hands were dirty and asked to wash them. I let him and then hes said, "Mommy, i wash my hands. I get another cookie now." Nice try, kid.

Robert is growing so fast! He's at least 16 lbs. now and has so much control of his boy. I found out he cannot only scoot on his stomach, but his back as well. I laid him down to make breakfast this morning and he scooted (on his back) halfway across the room before I caught him. William was helping me or I'd have blamed him. Robert is also a chatter box! he rarely passes up a chance to respond to your inquiries. Last night we "talked" for over 30 minutes! He sleeps pretty well too. He wakes up once (or sometimes twice) in the night, and sleeps in in the morning. I'll take it!

Today I've been cleaning. I even washed the dogs with William's help. I thought it would make them shed less so I could wash the carpet, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Oh well!

Till next time!

December 13, 2013

It's been quite a week!

Last weekend, Francis and I packed up the boys and headed to Plano for Christian's lingerie shower. What?! you may ask, but you read right. We braved the ice storm. We were ok pretty much up until we made it to Plano, where the ice was so think that we skated a couple of times. I was so relieved to reach Francis's parents house that I nearly cried. I will never do it again if I don't have to, especially with my babies in the car! The rest of the weekend I rode in my dad's truck, which was much more suited for ice driving. Saturday morning, my dad picked up Robert and me, and along with my sisters, we drove over to Ashley's house for the shower. We decked out her house and had a nice little party. It was nice to see everyone and celebrate Christian. while I was at the party with Robert, Francis, his parents and William gave William his first sledding experience in their front yard using a cookie sheet. He had a great time. I think he may have some Canadian blood or something because it was cold!  Sunday we waited until the ice began to melt and then headed home. It was weird to see everything in white melting to color. Strangely beautiful.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we went about our daily routine and tried to finish Christmas shopping. Thursday we hit up Lakeline Mall where we had lunch with Arlene and Caitlin before going to play downstairs. While William was playing, I met a Korean woman with a 4 year old girl and a 1 year old boy who live in the same neighborhood as the other Korean woman I met this summer. Both have daughters the same age, are new to the area, and are looking for friends. I gave each of them the other's number. As delighted as the woman was that I had been to Korea and could talk to her about it, she just about jumped over the moon when I told her there was a woman just down the street from her with which she had so much in common. I have a hunch they will be fast friends once they meet because they are both so sweet! Funny how things work out sometimes. Thursday afternoon, we did a Lego practice time at The Little Gym where William had a great time just goofing off with friends. Legos are just so much more fun when you can run them into your friend's Legos and you can both laugh. Boys...

Today we attended the grand opening of the Austin Aquarium. It was fun, but the Aquarium is far from fully operational. Thankfully there were few people there due to the rain and cold, so we had little competition to see the animals that were actually on display (about a 1/3 of the tanks are still empty).William loved the playground there, thought it is definitely not designed by a parent. Children come off the slide into the main aquarium area where parents can't really see them, so it would be easy for kids to get lost with more people around. We loved the bird area. One actually landed on my head. William thought that was hilarious! It pooped after it took off again, and I was thankful I did not get hit. We have season passes, and I look forward to getting our money's worth out of them as the year progresses. I wouldn't recommend paying full price for one day yet though as I don't think it would be worth it.

William and Robert have been playing more and more together. It's adorable to see them laugh and smile at each other. I'm so blessed!

Pray for us tomorrow as we drive back and forth from Abilene for Danielle's graduation. It's gonna be a long (but good) day!

December 5, 2013

So much has happened since last I posted!!! It will be a struggle to decide what to include and what to leave out.

Last Wednesday we made it to Plano after an extra hour and a half of traffic. Thanksgiving day was SO GOOD. It wasn't our usual extended family extravaganza. It was just the four of us, my parents, sisters, Chad and hid mom and step dad.  It was very low key and delicious. After food, everyone but William, Christian and Chad's mom donned our jerseys and headed to the COWBOYS GAME!!!! My Dad's company has tickets they give to clients but no one wanted them for Thanksgiving. We split up guys and girls (Robert went with the girls) and drove to the stadium. With our parking pass in Lot 5, we knew we were parking close. We just kept driving closer and closer to the stadium until someone stopped us and checked our car for bombs. We thought this odd until we saw our spot. It was quite literally in the doorway of one of the entrances. We were giddy with excitement. We got to our seats on row 18 at the 50 yard line, and it all started to sink in. We were at an actual cowboys game! In seats we totally didn't deserve. And with access to the owners club where free prime rib and drinks and a multitude of other delicious foods were served free of charge. I can't help but think that the feeling I had just then is a millionth of what I will feel when I get to heaven. You can bet I was thankful!!!!! Oh and we won! Side note: Robert was fussy the whole game and I found that night he is cutting his first tooth! His first thanksgiving included his first cowboys game and his first tooth. Quite a big day for this little man. Second side note: when we got home, it was clear William had been spoiled rotten. Thanks Auntie Chrissy!

Friday we packed up the boys and headed to San Antonio. I was glad Francis was driving as this is not a short trip! We made it to the hotel a while after the rest of Francis family (Cyndy, Chris, Abby, his parent and Nana Phillips). Francis's grandmother got to meet Robert for the first time. Francis caught a picture of the look on her face when Robert entered the room. It was a look of pure delight. Makes my heart happy to say the least. We attended the Christmas parade on the riverwalk followed by Sea World the next day. It was so fun to see Abby and William playing and interacting with each other and Robert. Sweet cousins!!

Sunday we got to see Gershom, Kristi and their two little girls before heading back to Austin. We love their sweet family! I also got a new phone Sunday evening. My old one's speaker broke while we were away.

Monday and Tuesday I tried to play catchup and get back on schedule. Wednesday was the church Bazaar at MOPS and I got a couple cute things. Today I had the Christmas brunch at Bible Study where both Robert and William were part of the program. Robert was one of the babies for the baby Jesus song, "You're here" and William performed in his first Children's concert. Both boys were great. Robert didn't cry, and William stood smiling while the other kids sang. William also shook a mean jingle bell and daced when the time came. Oh yeah, I got a video!

Well, I have to cut this short because Robert is fussy and I forgot to eat lunch. Till next time!

November 26. 2013

Well, I survived another birthday day. Those of you who know me well will know that is an accomplishment in itself. I can usually laugh about it a day or two after, but it is rarely funny at the time.

Francis took off last Friday (My birthday) and after frantically trying to get everything ready for pictures the night before, I tried to take it easy and not do much in the morning. What actually happened was Francis took my car in for an oil change and I spent a ridiculous amount of time again preparing for pictures. The oil change took longer than expected so our neighbor Amy came over to watch William while he napped so we could get my car and still get to pictures on time. Well, the weather here decided to turn very cold and rainy Thursday night (as in I almost died driving in the sudden down pour and darkness) and the frigid wetness made us have to alter our location to the Quarries church. Seth and Arlene Jennings met us there, and we took some pictures of the boys inside the building while hoping the rain at least would clear. We finally found a spot under some outside awning, but then quickly realized my dress had not made it into the car with the other clothes and props. I'll admit I cried, but Seth and Arlene were super sweet and offered to reschedule. We decided to call it quits for the day and all headed over to Longhorn steakhouse for my birthday dinner. My steak was delicious but overdone (it got us a free dessert though!) and chatting with the Jennings is always delightful. Not a bad end to the day!

We rescheduled the family pictures for Saturday afternoon and even though the high was only 40, we were determined. We found a place outside the YMCA of Round Rock and got some great shots. It was funny to see us all bundled up, then quickly shed our coats for the shot, and hustle to put them back on. William didn't seem to mind the cold. He must get that from Francis who was wearing a light jacket at best. I'll post the pictures after Christmas cards go out.

Sunday we decorated for Christmas a little. We realized that this was the only weekend we are home until new years, so we made the most of it.William is very excited for all the "new" things especially his little people nativity set. He love Mary and joseph and Baby Jesus, and plays Silent Night repeatedly. It's adorable.

This week I've been packing for Thanksgiving. We will do our usual pilgrimage to Dallas followed by I trip to San Antonio Friday night. It's gonna be fun but exhausting.

Well, I'll see you on the other side!

November 19, 2013

We had an exciting week in Dallas! I will never be able to describe all the fun we had, but I will do my best to hit the highlights.

Last Monday after I posted, my in-laws watched the boys so my parents, sisters, Chad and I could go see Thor 2. It was a great movie, and I enjoyed having a night out! When I went to pick up the boys, they were both (still) awake and having a great time. Always great fun when Nana and Grandad are around!

Tuesday my mom and I went to Stonebriar mall to shop. William got to ride the carousel and the boys had their first picture taken with Santa. I'm not a "make children believe something that isn't true" proponent so we told William that this santa was a representation of a wonderful man who lived long ago. William probably didn't quite get it and he was terribly confused by the man asking him what he wanted for Christmas. But in his good-natured way William answered the man's questions and gave him a high five. Robert sat quietly and had his picture taken. Since everything is so new to him, I don't suppose he thought this interchange strange.

Wednesday we (mom, the boys and I) went to Willowbend mall where they have a remarkable "ice castle" complete with fake falling snow. William got to meet a different Santa and was even more confused than the day before. He waved and smiled, but wouldn't tell the guy what he wanted for Christmas. To be fair, everyone keeps asking him this question, not just  men in red suits, so I think he is getting tired of being asked. Poor kid. I can't wait till Christmas comes and he finally realizes why everyone has been asking him. I also got the boys outfits for Christmas pictures. So cute!! Wedneday night, my mother-in-law took us out for dinner. William gave her a full dose of his two-year-oldnees, but I think she loved it.

Thursday we went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and mostly took it easy. You can only be go go go for so long before you need a break. Friday we went to Collin Creek (the trifecta) and shopped there. No santa at this mall yet, so William only got to play on the playground (tough like, I know). Francis came in late Friday night to Plano.  Saturday we all celebrated my birthday. I opened presents from my family, had steak and delicious red velvet cake. Who could ask for more? Francis took William back ti Austin with him Saturday evening, leaving me with Robert in Plano.

Sunday was Christan's second wedding shower. It was so sweet. The ladies prayed over her, showered her with gifts and showed her so much love! I am glad I was there, but I left directly from the party and headed home. So, there is your brief overview!

Yesterday Robert had his 2 month check up. He is 13 lbs, more than 23 inches (I never like the way the nurse measures), and his head circumference is of the charts! The doctor was extremely impressed with his exceptional head control and that he had no spots on his head. His skin is perfect, coordination above average and no cradle cap. He smiled at the doctor the whole time. She couldn't say enough positive things! When I left though, both boys were crying. Robert because he'd gotten a shot and William because he didn't and wanted one! He tried to tell the nurse to put one in his leg..he's so odd!

Well that's it for now! Gotta take care of the boys since they just woke up!

November 11. 2013

Well, it's been over a week since I blogged, so I will try to just hit the highlights. Last Monday through Thursday we went about our normal routine (Grocery store, The Little Gym, MOPS, and Bible Study). William and his friend Ranger got put in different classes at MOPS and were super sad, asking for each other and moping. Our sweet children's director saw this and placed them in the same class again. It was such a sweet reunion! I love seeing William have real relationships with kids his own age. It warms my heart. William has also demonstrated some great advancement in language. He now consciously and consistently differentiates singular and plural (look mom, one bus! Now look, two buses!). He also is using bigger and more complex sentences. He told me, "Mom, your blow dryer is too loud. I can't hear TV." It was impressive, but I did finish blow drying my hair anyway.

Robert has been holding his head up for longer and longer periods of time. He also makes great eye contact, smiles at people and make a whole range of noises. It's so fun to watch! Robert is as of last week in size 2 diapers and 6 month clothing. Big boy!

Friday, after William threw a couple of fits (wanting to go to Sweetie and Papa's now), and Robert looked like he was going to take a long nap, we packed up the car and William, Robert and I headed to Plano a day earlier than planned. The trip went so smoothly. It was a blessing. My grandparent's (Mom and Pop) as well as my Aunt Camille also came in Friday night, so we all had dinner together along with my parents and Danielle. Pop (aka Robert Noble Jr.) got to meet my Robert for the first time Friday night. It was so sweet the way he held him and just stared. I am sure he did this with William, but seeing it that moment brought tears to my eyes. He spoke baby talk to my little boy and they smiled at one another. It is rare I see my grandfather be so tender and silly. It is a moment I'll never forget.

Saturday, I picked up my friend from college, Erin, from the airport and she got to meet both my boys for the first time. I haven't seen her in three years so this reunion was extra special! Chad's (my soon-to-be brother in law) father and step mom were in town to meet Christian and the 4 of them took William to the Dallas Aquarium while I picked up Erin and subsequently went shopping. It was nice having an afternoon with the girls (and Robert), but I was super glad when William came home. He had a GREAT time!!!

Sunday after church (which we went to after going to the dr to find out William had another ear infection), we all headed to the family wedding shower in Ft. Worth that my Aunt and cousin hosted. In addition to everyone mentioned above, my other set of grandparents (Jamama and Japapa) and a host of other family members came together to celebrate this happy union. Erin and I took pictures and everyone had a wonderful time. I think Chad and Christian had the best time though; they look so sweet together. Being surrounded by beautiful decorations, tons of gift and the love and support of family, they were over the moon. At times though, I could tell that everything faded and it was just them. What a special time in their lives, and they are drinking it in! Jamama and Japapa and the rest of the family got to meet Robert for the first time, and it was Robert's 2 month birthday. Such a big happy day for all! Sunday evening, after returning to the house, Erin, Danielle, Ashley and I had a girls night after my boys went bed. We watched a girly movie, did hair, and I did my nails (no joke). It was so refreshing to be me again and not just a mom. It reminded me of who I am and that sometimes I just need to take it easy and be silly. Thanks ladies!

This morning I dropped Erin back off at the airport (I threatened in vain to not let her go) and then watched Jamama and Japapa leave (they spent the night here too). My mom, William, Robert and I had chick-fil-a for lunch and now everyone but me is napping.

Tonight, my in-laws are babysitting so I can see Thor with my family. Can I just say how thankful I am to have a family who loves me and my children enough to watch them so I can have a break once in a while. They've been awesome, all of them! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you help!

Francis stayed in Austin while we are in Plano this week because he had to work. He spent much of Saturday helping to clean up from the flood in south Austin with a group from our church. I am so proud of him for taking his relaxation time and using it to help others. He is also playing a lot of video games, catching up on movies and getting actual sleep. I'm hoping this week will really refresh his introverted spirit.

That's all for now!

November 2, 2013

November already? I can't believe my birthday is almost here yet again. I have a hard time believing another year has past until I realize that Robert didn't even exist last November. How time flies!

Last Saturday was crazy! We went to an event outside the soon-to-be opening Austin Aquarium. William got to see some of the animals they will be showcasing. He's excited! He also got to go down a bouncy slide. That was fun. We went straight from there to Lakeline mall where they were having their kids event filled with food, crafts, a balloon man (William got a balloon rocket), and a bounce house. William never wanted to loeave, especially since his best bud Ranger showed up to join in the fun! From there William fell asleep in  the car (Robert slept on and off throughout the day) and so I got to go shopping at Bed bath and Beyond for my sister's upcoming wedding showers. From there we went to the Quarries church for there Fall Fest complete with a petting zoo, games, a cake walk, and, you guessed it, more inflatables to jump on. Since inflatables are William's favorite things, he did not complain a bit. It was a great but exhausting day!

Sunday after church we skipped out on an event at The Little Gym and took it easy. We had lunch with some awesome friends and then I got to talk on the phone with a friend from college while the boys napped. We needed some down time, for sure.

Monday we grocery shopped as usual. It still wasn't too bad. Tuesday we had Little Gym and in the afternoon we went out to Kiddie Acres for William to play with his new friend Gracie. I'm working on getting to meet/know new people so when Annette (Gracie's mom) invited us, I jumped at the chance. The kid's had a great time on all the old timey rides and the day was beautiful.

Wednesday was the low point in our week. Both boys woke up sick in the night. We went to the doctor to find they both had conjunctivitis in both eyes and  William had an ear infection and a sore throat (they ran a strep test but it was negative). After waiting an hour and a half for meds (where I cried multiple times because I wasn't feeling well either an no one could figure out why the prescriptions were repeatedly not getting fro the dr to the pharmacy), we came home. A sweet lady from church, after hearing my plight, bought us dinner, which was such a blessing. In my sickness I was trying to thaw a brick of meatloaf and it just wouldn't thaw, when she offered, I cried with relief. Sometimes one little thing can make a day brighter, and I thank God for this woman.

Thursday, the boys were already feeling much better and so was I. After quarantining ourselves all day just to be safe, Francis came home from work and we ventured out in the evening to our own Church's fall fest. They had food, games, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, and at least a dozen different inflatables. Can you guess what we spent the bulk of our time doing? yeah... William and Robert were both dressed as Astronauts. It was soooooo adorable! They came home with tons of candy. But when we got home, our neighbors asked us (William and I) to go to a couple of houses with them. So for the first time in my life, I went trick or treating. We only went to neighbors we knew that were sitting on their lawn, so we didn't knock on any doors, but it was  still a firs for me.

Friday William, Robert and I went up to the state capitol to have lunch with my friend Becky on the lawn. It was a beautiful day. I got a picture of Robert's first trip to the capitol, and it was a delightful time.

Today Francis and William are currently at Home Depot doing a craft and then they will be shooting off rockets at a nearby park while I clean house. I'm glad they get some daddy-William time. As for me and Robert, we will be whistling while we work!

Tata!

October 25, 2013

I can't believe October is almost over. Even in my sleep deprived state, I feel like this month has flown by.

Last Friday night, my sister Danielle and her boyfriend Kevin came in for the weekend to attend a wedding. Danielle got in after William was asleep, but shortly after she arrived, William woke up needing to go to the bathroom. Danielle was already heading upstairs so she went ahead and took him. When he got up the next morning, I could tell he thought it was a dream, especially when we went downstairs to make breakfast and no Danielle was in sight. Imagine his joy when Danielle came down the stairs for breakfast. He squealed and ran to her. It was adorable! I am so glad William loves his family.

After breakfast, Francis, Robert, William and I headed toward Houston to spend time with my in-laws (Francis's parents and sister's family) and celebrate october birthdays at a pumkin patch. The one we originally planned to attend was rained out, so we ended up at Blessington Farm and it was well named. It was a perfect afternoon filled with family and beautiful weather. William and Abby had a blast. They played with each other and enjoyed the slides, train ride, hay maze, pedal tractors, and pumpkins. I think Francis and Chris had almost as much fun as the kids. Cyndy got some awesome pictures too so we are able to remember this day always. After having dinner together, we parted ways.

This is where the perfect day ends and a much sadder tale ensues. On our way home, the fall sun set quickly and we were driving in the countryside in the dark for a while. I was in the back seat with the kids trying to keep everyone entertained. All of a sudden we hit something. Francis looked and saw a hint of a headlight reflect back at him on the side of the road and quickly pulled over with a great fear taking hold of him. He ran back with a flashlight and his fear was confirmed. There was a motorcycle on the side of the road. Francis tried to see if the thing in the road was the driver, but he couldn't tell and there was too much traffic (every car was hitting the object) to get a good look. Thankfully other drivers circled around and come to help Francis while he called 911. They found the driver in the ditch by the road. Apparently he had hit a deer (which is what we hit also) and was thrown clear of the road. He was in full protective gear, but had lost his helmet in the crash and his face was pretty banged up. Francis said he was breathing but that's about all he could tell. Francis waited until the EMS arrived to take him, and finally came back to tell me what had happened. The boys and I were too far away to see anything, and William never knew what had happened. The whole thing had Francis pretty shaken up and thankful that we were all alive and well. We pray the cyclist will be well soon, though we have no way of knowing his status.

Sunday after church we had lunch with Danielle and Kevin before they headed back to their respective cities. I am sad we didn't get to spend more time with them, but I know they had a good time anyway. Monday, as the boys and I were all feeling crummy, we made a trip to the doctor's office. She said it was just allergies ( not what I wanted to hear...I wanted MEDS!), and we would just have to tough it out. Monday afternoon, I made my first solo trip to the grocery store with both kids. It went really well...it was almost too easy. I'm hoping that trend will continue. Tuesday we had The Little Gym. Really not much to report there.

Wednesday I was very ambitious. After my first time taking both boys to storytime at Barnes and Noble (William did awesome!!!), I took William to get a haircut. As a reward for being so good all morning, we three went to Chick-fil-a for lunch. This was a potential mine-field, but it went really well. I'm starting to feel like super-mom. I better not let it go to my head. Thursday after bible study where we had an awesome speaker about communication between the genders, we had a second day of Chick-fil-a, but this time with Arlene and Caitlyn. It was so fun and I treasure her friendship!

Today I have made a vow to take it easy, so we have not left the house. We've played in the driveway most of the morning, while I cleaned out my car and part of the garage. Surprisingly this was rather relaxing. William and I also played golf and I chased him around as he drove his hot wheels truck up and down the sidewalk. He is now officially tall enough to push the pedals by himself. Watch out world!!!

Updates on my boys:
Robert is becoming a pro at tracking objects with his eyes and can now turn his head consistently toward an object or person he wants to see. He is getting increasing control of his neck and back so that the days of a squishy newborn slowly becoming just a memory. He can now also hold and shake objects as well as aim at and hit objects in his field of view. He smiles at me, Francis and William at least once a day and really enjoys tummy time when William gets down there to play with him. Robert had his first real nap in his bassinet (he's started putting himself to sleep) this week and slept for a 5 or more hour stretch twice. He's growing so fast!

William is becoming more verbal all the time. He told his first joke this week to me. (Knock knock, who's there, Boo, boo who?, don't cry!) It was adorable. He is also learning to use his senses. He tells me to listen, look and touch things and then describes them to me if I ask him questions. Oh! And he can now recognize when I spell aloud or write down mom, dad, William, boy, girl and Robert, but can only spell mom and dad himself. He's such a smart kid!

That's all for now!

October 18, 2013

"Mr. Smiley" is laying in my lap trying to decide whether he wants to eat or poop. My guess is he will eventually choose to do a little of both (as my father said recently, input and output). Robert's been pretty talkative today and very interactive. He and William laid on the bed earlier making faces and talking to each other. William kept laughing and Robert kept cooing. I wish I had my camera!

Robert was dedicated last Sunday at Great Hills Baptist Church. My parents, Francis's parents and my sister Danielle were all there to witness our commitment and join in the celebration. Robert looked adorable in his little suit and everything went smoothly. We walked the stage (with Robert and big brother William) and then they had a special mother's song and the dedication. William kept trying to hold/touch Robert and hug me while Francis held him, which was cute but a bit distracting. Robert slept through the whole thing and was quiet as a mouse. After church, our families, us and the Davises (Angel, Austin and their child Ranger) went out with us to celebrate at Carraba's. It was great! Robert is so well loved, and the love of his earthly family pales in comparison to the Heavenly Father's love for him. I pray he grows up knowing and valuing his worth and purpose.

Oddly enough, Francis had off Monday for Colombus day. We went grocery shopping in the morning
(I tried out the baby Bjorn carrier Tracy lent me and LOVED it!) and then had lunch a Chick-fil-a. William would be happy living there forever, but we eventually had to leave so he could nap. Francis wanted pizza for his birthday dinner (a couple of days early), but due to the Cowboys scoring more than 20 points in football the day before and the resulting 50% off pizza, we had to wait a long time to get our order and bring it home. Francis opened one of his birthday presents early and we spent the later evening watching Iron Man 3 in 3D on our TV. It was a great day!

Tuesday I finally tried to get back to business as usual. We did Little Gym and MOPS on Wenesday. Wednesday, William and I baked and decorated a birthday cake, wrapped presents and decorated for Francis's birthday. I thawed some of Francis's mom's delicious meatloaf and heated it in the oven. William and I worked out an adorable rendition of the Happy birthday song and then everything was set for Francis to arrive. William was beyond excited, yelling surprise before Francis even entered the door. We had dinner as a family, opened presents, and ate cake. William was particularly excited about the cake. He helped sing and helped blow out the candles. Francis and I finished off the evening by watching the first few episodes of The Big Bang Theory Season 6 which Francis had received from my sister Danielle. Happy Birthday Francis!

Yesterday we did Bible Studay, came home for lunch and then had a playdate with Ashley and her daughter Harper that we met through The Little Gym. William loved playing with all the girly toys that we don't own and also loved painting pumpkins with his friends.

Today we went to the Library where we saw Angel and Ranger. They came back to our house to play and have lunch before I finally put William down for a well deserved nap. I'm feeling a bit under the weather and William has a runny nose, so hopefully a rest will do us all some good.

That's all for now!!

October 12, 2013

I seem to not have a good grasp on what day it is. I can't believe it is Saturday! This week has been a bit of a blur.
Last Sunday Robert surprised me by rolling over twice before church! We were eating breakfast while Robert was having tummy time, and I guess he wanted to join us because all of a sudden he went from his stomach to his back. This surprised him and he cried, so I rolled him back to his stomach. He immediately rolled over again! I got out the video camera, but he wouldn't do it again, probably because he was tired at that point. I guess we have mover on our hands! It was a great day. Francis grilled out that night and we had bacon wrapped filets. Yum!

Francis took off every day this week except Wednesday. He has to use up some vacation time and I need the help. Monday morning, William, Robert and I went and got Robert an outfit to wear for baby dedication this Sunday. Afterwards we went to the mall and played in the playcourt. Francis met us for lunch (after taking to morning for himself) and we ate at Fuddruckers. Francis and William then went on to a place called Jump Street where they spent the afternoon goofing off so I could spend time with Robert and clean the house and catch up on chores. It's a lot easier to clean when a 2 year old isn't undoing everything you do, just sayin. When they came home, William had passed out from all the fun he had. I think it was some great father-son time.

Tuesday, Francis took William to the Little Gym while I waited for the bug guy to eradicate our spider and ant problem. William's burn is now just a red spot (I peeled off the skin) so he had no trouble doing what the instructor asked. I had my Dr. appointment check up Tuesday afternoon. I am healing nicely. the doctor had only positive things to say. I am hoping to be completely back to normal soon.

William has not been napping as well as waking up at night with bad dreams and Robert has been sleeping really well and for longer periods of time. The two seem to be polar opposites in that respect. Wednesday (when Francis was at work), William, Robert and I had a play date at a park with a bunch of wonderful ladies I know and their kids. It was so fun and extremely refreshing. Well, William played and was a ball of energy and Robert pretty much slept through the whole thing. Later that day Arlene and Caitlyn (her daughter) brought us dinner and stayed to play for a while. William was still going strong and had a great time. After we ate, I look over and William is holing his chocolate milk on the couch and has completely passed out. It was not even 6:30. Francis came home and put him in bed. William slept through the night (only waking once but putting himself back to sleep) until morning. He was one tired kiddo. I guess even toddlers have their limit!

Thursday Robert turned one month old! Wow, how the time has flown! I keep taking pictures each day so I can remember as much as possible, but I still feel like I miss so much. Francis dropped me and the boys off for Bible Study and headed to church to program lights. He didn't make it back before we were done, so I carried Robert in the carrier and went to get William form class. He was having such a great time, he didn't want to leave. He had a meltdown which ended in me carrying him, the carrier and the diaper bag down the hallway. Needless to say, I threw out my back. Francis arrived and got me home, but the damage has been done. I need to take it easy, but it is hard sometimes. Francis took William on a bike ride in the afternoon and brought me back a coke icee. They are such sweet boys! Becky brought us dinner Thursday night. I can't say enough how much help it has been to have food provided for us. It is one of the greatest gifts and blessing that could have been bestowed!

Friday morning I was still pretty waylaid by my back, so Francis took William out and shot off rockets at a nearby park. They have been building the rocket all week together, and this was William's first time to see one fly. Francis said the look on his face was priceless as he pressed the button and watched the rocket soar. William was so excited to tell me all about it, so I can only imagine how he felt at the time. I am so glad they've had all this time together. Robert and I met them for lunch at Wing stop and then after nap and a wardrobe change, we had pictures taken at church for the church directory. The one we chose turned out pretty well, although William was all over the place during the (short) session. After pictures, we headed across campus and dropped William off at parents night out in the children's building. Francis and I (with Robert) had a date night at Kona Grill and it was amazing. The decor was beautiful with a fish tank taking up one entire wall. The food was delicious, and the company beyond compare. It was so refreshing to have that one on one time with my husband outside of our home. I always treasure that time.

Today, Francis and I had been cleaning the house. I know it will drive us both crazy if we don't get things in order before "business as usual" starts next week. It will be good to have everything start off on the right foot.

William continues to enjoy Robert and loves the title "Big Brother". He makes sure people know what he is just in case they are confused. Tummy time has become brother bonding time as William will also get on his tummy and talk to Robert. It's adorable. William has also been explaining to Robert how to do all sorts of processes such as rolling over and using the potty. It's great! William has been constructing language and trying to understand it in new and different ways. He realized this week that everyone calls themselves  "me" and the other person "you". He's been using those words for a long time, but he decided to ask me about it this week and it was so cute! Something else was also super cute that we discussed, but I can't think of it!! So frustrating!

Robert is becoming more alert all the time, sleeping for longer periods of time, and using more and varied sounds. He is getting pretty good control of his back and neck so that I can sit him in the crux of the couch or on my arm and he can stay pretty upright. It's so cool to see him grow so fast. It's hard to believe William was ever that little.

That's all for now!

October 4, 2013

I'm flying solo. I have been for the past couple of days (which is one of the reasons I haven't written). I'm doing ok, but it's tough at times. I don't feel like I'm failing miserably, and I consider the a huge win.

Last week my mother in law was here, which was AWESOME! She cooked and helped me clean my house and went with us pretty much everywhere. Thanks to her, my mom, and a few wonderful ladies from my church, I have not had to cook yet and probably won't have to for at least another couple of weeks. As this was one of the hardest things to do when William was little, it is one of the biggest blessings. My mother-in-law FILLED (and I mean FILLED) my freezer to the brim with things that either need to just be heated or require minimal effort to have a hot, healthy meal on the table. My heart is overflowing with the love that has been shown me. Well, we spent last week shopping, cooking, cleaning, and preparing for me to be alone this week. William and Robert behaved like real troopers. I only really overdid it one day, which is amazing in itself. I cried when she left, but I know she left us all well looked after. Thank you!!!

Well, My mother-in-law left Friday, so Saturday morning was our first morning with no visitors. Francis got up with William to let me rest and they made breakfast for me. William came to tell me that food was almost ready. I got up and was almost ready to head downstairs (William had already gone down) when I heard a scream of pain. I knew it was bad. William had apparently reached for something while helping Dad and lost his balance. His had (the edge of it) landed on the burner when he steadied himself. The burn was blistered and so red it hurt to look at. William couldn't stop crying. After getting him to eat a little, Francis took him to the emergency room where they diagnosed it as a 2nd degree burn and wrapped it up with meds, telling us to check back on Monday. Funny thing was that the Social worker came in (which is mandatory when children come into the emergency room with injuries) and took one look at the wound and one look at the horror on Francis's face and told him that "accidents happen" and he needs to be more careful. She could tell right away how bad he felt. She did get the story and do her job, but I think it's funny that she felt the need to comfort him. Poor Francis. I know he will be hyper vigilant in the future.

Well, my mom happened to be in town for a political meeting, and she scooped up Robert, William and I back to Dallas to give Francis a little break and let hi recover a bit for work (he's had very little sleep lately). We headed to Dallas late Saturday evening. It was Robert's first road trip and both boys did phenomenally! Roebert slept the whole way except for when he nursed and then needed to be changed. He's a great car baby!

Sunday, after church, my parents, sisters, chad, the boys and I all went to the State Fair of Texas! It was awesome! William got picked to be on stage for the World on a String puppet show, he played in the cars at the car show, he was a lion (completely adorable!) in the Backyard Circus and he loved the parade and fireworks show. Robert too was enamored with all the sites. He watched the puppet show with interest and could not take his eyes off the bright lights in the parade or the fireworks. I could tell he was confused by it all, but he watched and was fascinated by each new thing. We also got a picture with the new Big Tex. Not bad for Robert's (and Chad's) first Fair trip!

Monday, Mom, Robert and I took William to the doctor where they looked at his burn, gave us some new meds (which have been working great!) and sent us on our way. After an afternoon nap, My sweet friend, Ashley Duran came by to meet Robert.  She's one of those people who you are glad you know, and I'm so glad she got to meet my baby boy.

Tuesday mom, my boys and I went to Hillsboro Outlet Mall where I got a dress for Robert's baby dedication. After dinner, we met Francis in Waco and switch all our stuff over into his car so he could take us home and my mom could go back to plano. It was so nice of each of them to take us (halfway) home!

Wednesday was my first official day solo. I made it to MOPS on time with both boys dressed and ready, but it took sometime to find William's classroom. Everything went smoothly and I was even able to give William his lunch in the car because I knew he would be hungry before we got home. Well, I then tried to put William and Robert down for naps, which they both refused. I struggled for 2 hours before I gave up. Out of desperation at 4 I turned on the TV and fed Robert. and both boys were out in 30 seconds. They both slept for an hour and a half while I was pinned to the couch by them. Oh, the joys of motherhood.

Yesterday, I again made it to Mom's Together (a bible Study) on time with both boys ready. When I got home, William needed to go potty and missed a bit, I got him new clothes only to find ants all over his closet and clothes. I threw the ant covered clothes in the washer and started it with hot water, leaving William on the toilet yelling at me and Robert screaming to be fed. I nearly had a nervous breakdown before getting the situation contained and getting myself fed about 1:45. Quite an ordeal!

Today, Angel came over with Ranger and we had a little playdate. And now the boys are resting. Waiting for the natural disaster that will happen today, but it hasn't hit yet. I'm sure it will come ^_^

William has been an awesome Big Brother. When I picked him up from class on Wednesday, they said he had been taking care of all the baby dolls and making sure they were fed and got rest. And that's what he does at home too: he watches out for his little brother and wants to do things with him as much as possible. Robert's a good sport. I think they will be good friends.

Robert has grown so much physically this week. He is gaining weight so fast and looks less like a newborn all the time. He has pretty good head and body control for his age and is so alert and watches most everything that goes on. He cries very little and has been sleeping great at night. I can only hope this behavior will continue. It keeps me calm and pretty well rested. I truly can't complain.

September 23, 2013

I can't believe Robert will be 2 weeks old tomorrow! Time has gone by in a blink! It was quite a week, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Yes, I am tired and my back still hurts (it still seizes up occasionally) and I wish I felt like "me" again, but I have been loving every day of being a mom of 2.

Last Monday (after Francis reluctantly headed back to work), William had his two year check up (finally). We had to wait so he could get his flu shot, but they ended up still not having it. He's 30 lbs, and growing so tall! Everything looked great to the doctor and she was super impressed with his development. Yay for a healthy William! Also, Mom and I made our first grocery shopping trip with two kids. We each took a cart and divided and conquered. It took a little longer than usual, but I am proud to say, we made it! William was an awesome trooper and Robert slept through the whole thing. I was pretty pooped for the rest of the day, and I am thankful my mom was there to pick up the slack. She's awesome, in case anyone was wondering!

Tuesday, I went with William to The Little Gym for his regular class. Mom and Robert came too. I lasted just long enough for everyone to tell me congratulations before I had to tag my mom in so I could sit down. Robert again slept through the whole thing, so I had it pretty easy sitting and watching William run around the gym like there's no tomorrow. I wish I had his energy! After nap on Tuesday, we tried to get Robert's newborn portraits done. William was great for the many hours we were there, but Robert wanted nothing of it. We got a few cute pictures of the two boys together (and one of the three of us), but none of Robert individually. He was too fussy and mad about the lights. The studio was great and saved our photos and let me and scheduled me and Robert to come back the following day. It was emotionally draining because I wanted to just be done, but in the end, it worked out for the best.

Wednesday morning William woke up with a fever, so my mom stayed home and watched him while William and I went to a MOPS (mother's of preschoolers) group at church. It was the first meeting and Robert decided this would be a perfect time to poop and pee all over himself, his blanket, me, the floor and all the general surroundings. All this happened while the speaker was giving a "life's messy" speech. I think Robert did it on purpose to prove her point. After MOPS and lunch, Robert and I went back to the portrait studio and got some awesome shots! We waited forever for them to print and the manager felt so bad, she gave us a second set of prints for FREE! Robert was so good and I could not have asked for more. By then, William was feeling better so we went home. I missed William after being away all day. I don't know how working moms do it.

Thursday, William, Robert and I went to a Beth Moore Bible Study at a nearby church. It was great. William's class has a McDonald's type play place in it. He had a great time and I was able to meet a lot of wonderful ladies (and my mom got a little break!). I look forward to learning a lot this year!

Friday, we took it pretty easy and tried to get the house in order before my mother left that evening. It was raining all day so the desire to stay in was easy to give into. It was nice to spend a day with my boys and mother. We needed some refreshing. My mom left after dinner and my mother-in-law arrived a short time later. These two women are amazing to take time out of their busy schedule and I am so glad for their help!!!

Saturday, all our plans were derailed as a rash on Robert landed us at the After Hours Clinic. The doctor said it was likely due to my detergent or soap (since it was only where he touched me), so we had to go get new stuff to see it that would fix the problem. The rash looked like blazing fire ant bites and was very hot to the touch, so we are glad it is nothing more serious.

Sunday, Robert made his first appearance at church. Everyone was so glad to see him (and me) and the love of the church body for our family was warmly felt. I thank God for this healthy and vibrant group of believers. They certainly ministered to me on Sunday. After church, my mother-in-law, Robert and I went shopping and got a bunch of cute stuff. I was actually feeling pretty good until the very end when I hit a bit of a wall and my back started to really hurt. I over did it. Today I am reaping the consequences of that choice. But...I would probably still have done it if I had to do it over again. I don't like being an invalid!

Today I went grocery shopping with my mother-in-law. Robert slept through it again. I am beginning to notice a pattern. We will see what the coming weeks and months will bring!

William has been talking SO much more! He is using 3, 4, and 5 or more words sentences to communicate. He is absorbing so much syntax and vocabulary. It is simply amazing to look at Robert and try to picture William like that. He's so big now. As soon as Robert was born, William became infinitely bigger in my eyes. It is hard to see how much he has grown until you have something to compare it to. My little William is now my big toddler!!! Thankfully he still likes to snuggle and his physical growth is paired with emotional and intellectual maturity. He LOVES Robert still and always wants to hold him, talk to him and make him happy. It is amazing to see him turn into a little man before my very eyes. It's enough to make you cry with joy!

Robert, too has grown in just the week. He has pretty much outgrown all his newborn clothing (though, to be fair, it was pretty snug when he was born). He's now wearing 3 month clothing and has a little room to grow. It he is like his brother, he will fill it out in no time. His face has gotten rounder, and that adorable baby fat and muscle are just beginning to emerge.Robert is SO alert. He watches everything! He is so interested in William too. It's so fun to see them interact. Robert is finally starting to get his nights and days fixed, and thanks to my mother and mother-in-law, everyone is getting a fair amount of sleep.

All in all, I can't complain. I have an awesome family (both nuclear and extended), and a great support system. I am so thankful!

My Baby and Me!

Robert was due to arrive today. Thank goodness though; he's already been out and about for 5 days! We are so so so pleased to welcome him into our family. All of us could not be more thrilled.

I was in labor for 12 hours and 15 minutes: a new record for me in a good way. It was hard, and there was a moment when I thought I would not be able to do it, but Robert was worth all of the pain and exhaustion. Robert Christian Phillips weighed 8lbs. 6oz. and were 21 inches long with a 15 in head circumference. My mom cut the umbilical cord when he came out at 11:37 on September 10, 2013. The umbilical cord was wrapped around tightly around Robert's neck, but Dr. Brown popped it off with no issue. His vitals always looked good (except for once when I laid on my side) and so Dr. Brown was never worried. That first cry of his brought tears to my eyes as they placed Robert on my chest. Francis just repeated over and over, “I’m so proud of you” as he held back tears and went for the camera. He watched Robert get cleaned up and be weighed and measured. There was no way he was going to leave our baby's side. My mom left to get me food, and we had an hour to nurse, cuddle and love on our new bundle. I will not forget the pride, joy and love on Francis’s face when he held Robert for the first time. It was a precious moment.

We were moved to a new room and got settled in well after 1 am. None of us slept much, but it didn’t matter. We had Robert.

The next morning, my mom and mother-in-law brought William to meet Robert. William gave Robert a monkey stuffed animal and cow rattle. Robert "got" him a toy train engine. William loved Robert already.

William begged to hold him right away. We set him in William's lap with a pillow and asked him who he was holding. He answered, “Rob!” Already he had a nickname for Robert. It was adorable. William stroked his brother, loved on him and kissed him. It was so adorable and made me so proud! William has wanted to hold Robert pretty consistently ever since. My father-in-law came to meet Robert later that day as did my Aunt Camille, Angel Davis, and Seth and Arlene Jennings. It was a great first day.

Robert's first full night was rough on me. He didn’t sleep and Francis went home to be with William. As I was her only patient, the nurse took Robert twice so I could rest. I think he may still have your days and nights confused (My mom has been watching him at night in between feedings and she is exhausted!). After Robert's circumcision the next morning and the doctor checked me out, we were cleared to leave around 4pm. We got home, had a burrito dinner with my mom, Francis and William and then settled in for the night. Around 8:30pm, I checked Robert's diaper and found he was still bleeding from his circumcision site, and I panicked. Francis, Robert and I headed to the emergency room where they put on more medicated gauze (they had put some on before at the hospital when we left to stop a bleed) and sent us home. The next morning Robert was still bleeding, so we met Dr. Brown at the hospital and she put some glue stitches to make the bleeding halt. It worked! From the hospital we went straight to the pediatrician and got a clean bill of health (no jaundice!!). I could not have been more relieved. We were then finally able to spend more than 8 hours out of the hospital with with our boys. Robert is one awesome kid. He barely cried through any of it.

Saturday, the whole family came to visit. Papa, Sweetie, Nana, Grandad, Mom Noble (my grandmother), Aunt Camille, Aunt Christian, Aunt Danielle, Uncle Chad, Aunt Cyndy, Uncle Chris and Cousin Abby. The house was full! Papa (My Dad) was completely thrilled to hold the other Robert, and Christian and Danielle were sweet baby hogs (with Christian being much worse!). It just shows how well Robert is loved that everyone wanted to be here with him. William got a new train set with tracks, and the men spent a great deal of time assembling it. William enjoyed playing swords with Chad, Danielle and Christian, and especially loved playing with Abby in his motorized truck. William loved showing Robert off to everyone and relished the big brother title he so richly deserves.

Now here Robert and I sit on a Sunday afternoon. William and Dad went to church while Mom and I stayed to care for Robert and recuperate from another sleepless night. I love his little faces and gentle snoring. Just looking at him brings tears to my eyes. We are so blessed!

William is adjusting pretty well to being a brother, but there are times I can tell he wants to be a baby too. We keep accentuating the positive things about being a big boy and that really seems to help. My back is killing me. It seizes constantly, but I try to push through. I really don't want to have to ask my doctor for stronger medication. Even laying down, though, I get no relief. Please be in prayer for me as I continue to try to adjust to our growing family. Pretty soon I will be on my own and I really need to be in tip top shape!

So, in conclusion, welcome to the world, Robert Christian Phillips!!!!
