February 27, 2014

How did Thursday get here already? I feel like I've hardly come up for air, mostly because I haven't been sleeping. It's not the boys, just insomnia.

Robert has gone two whole weeks with no eye gunk in either eye! I am so glad that the ducts have cleared on their own!!! His sweet little face is just too cute, and I'm glad I no longer have to make him upset by clearing his eyes every time he wakes. We've also been slightly more successful with food as Robert has tried both apple sauce and banana. The apple sauce seems to be a bust, but he did like gnawing on a whole banana (that I was eating) for a good 30 minutes this morning. I don't know that he actually ate any of it, but the fact he put it in his mouth willingly and chewed it is a great step forward. I let him gnaw on an apple the other day (just to taste it), and all I got was a dirty look and a cry. I hope this is not a precursor to him being a picky eater. I got so lucky that William will try almost anything. Oh! And Robert has really mastered the walker. The other day while I was making diner, he was roaming around the house happy as a lark, even visiting me twice while I was cooking to flash his toothless smile. Such a fun time to be alive! Robert is also sitting up more and more. He hasn't got the balance down 100% but pretty soon I know he'll be sitting up on his own unassisted all the time.

Last Wednesday we had MOPS in the morning followed an afternoon outside with our neighbor Ashly and her boys Oliver and Henry. It's nice having a neighbor with boys the same age as mine. They keep each other entertained!

Thursday I had Bible Study where we talked about the fruits of the spirit 'kindness' and 'goodness'. It was a good time and I learned a lot. The weather was so great that the boys and I went on a walk in the afternoon and got to explore the neighborhood a little bit. They are putting up houses right and left and have even added a new street in our development. It was fun to see all the growth and know we'll be getting many new neighbors!

Friday we went to the Thinkery in the morning. It was a crazy madhouse, but I managed to keep it together just long enough for William to do almost everything. I finally broke down and had a panic attack (there were just too many people in a small place. I was worried we's get trampled), so we went across the street to look at the ducks and play on the playground. That was relaxing and I am so glad that beautiful little lake is there! After nap, another walk. I'm trying to get the boys outside as much as possible when the weather permits. We live indoors far too much because it is either too hot or cold. It's much easier to run around without walls getting in your way.

Saturday was SO FUN! Francis, the boys and I went to the Play Park for All Abilities up in Round Rock with Seth and Arlene and their daughter Caitlyn. It was amazing (and free!). They have a string of playgrounds, sand pits and other activities so kids of all age and abilities can enjoy being themselves. William really loved the pretend town. Inside the school there was a map of Texas and the United states as well as a fake board with letters and numbers. He said, "Look mommy! There are letters and there are numbers! Oh! And a map of the United States!" My jaw dropped to the floor. How did he know that? It only got worse (by worse I mean better) after that. At the gas station, William pretended to gad up a car (it only had the station, not a pretent pump) and he said, "Mommy, don't forget your receipt!" At the grocery store, he pretended to check me out (this is all outside so it is really a shell building with only pictures on the walls) and took my imaginary food, put it in imaginary bags, took my imaginary money and put it in an imaginary cash register and then gave me imaginary CHANGE! I didn't even know he knew people got change since I almost always use my credit card. At the hospital he looked at the pictures on the wall and pointed and said(correctly) "Mommy, that's a picture of your bones, that's a picture of inside your muscles, and that's...um...that's your blood things (pulmonary system)". I was shocked. He proceeded to pretent to be a pharmacist and give me the medicine I needed to heal. Then he wanted to check the engine on the pretend school bus to make sure everything was in working order. He also asked me for a fire hydrant to hook up his imaginary hose to put out a fire at the fire station. This kid has such a wonderfully vivid imagination! I had no idea it was so detailed or deep, but I shouldn't be surprised. He's an amazing kid! I am so glad I got to witness it first hand!!!! We capped off the evening by Francis making the most delicious burgers I've ever had. I put steak marinade in them and then put blue cheese on top. Even William couldn't get enough! Thanks Hun!

Sunday we had a wonderful time at church and got to catch up with Becky and Russ afterwards over lunch. And then in the evening, Francis took Robert on his first bike ride in the trailer. He loved it even though it was just around the block before Francis and William went on further. William was a great big bro and made sure Robert was ok while they travelled. I foresee many fun trips to come!

Monday was Little Gym day and boy boys handled it like champs. We had Panda Express in the middle and made a stop at Target before heading back. A woman who had been sitting in her car suddenly turned it on and backed up with no noticed and brushed the back of my leg with her car and just missed William (I was holding Robert). Scared me good and the lady too. Look behind before you back up!!!!!!!

Tuesday we went to the grocery store, came back for lunch and then went to the outlet mall with Arlene and Caitlyn. William and Caitlyn had a great time together while Arelene and I shopped. I finally got myself a few new tops an got William some pants as well as shoes for his tuxedo. A good shopping trip with good company. Success!!

Wednesday the boys and I went to Barnes and Noble for story time and saw Angel with Ranger and Annette with her daughter Gracie (who LOVES William). Fun was had by all, even if the stories were a little too long this week. I spent the afternoon cleaning. Of course I steam clean the carpet and couches on the day it drizzle rains all day. I'm just asking to be disappointed!

Today we went to MOMS bible study again. On the way into the building, I was pushing the stroller, and a car that had been sitting there since before we got out of our car suddenly pulled out without warning while we were right behind it (neither I nor Angel who was there even knew the car was on). I yanked the stroller back away, but William came tumbling out right behind the car (he had been playing with Ranger and climbed in without buckling in). Thankfully the car stopped just as suddenly as it started, and then man waved and apologized. I know he felt terrible. PLEASE LOOK BEHIND YOU BEFORE YOU BACK OUT! My child has been nearly hit by a vehicle 3 times in the past 2 weeks, and two of those times were by people who were likely distracted by something in their car and started backing up without warning. I am hyper vigilant when passing cars with my children. There is nothing more I can do.   That's my PSA. Watch where you are driving! I am SO thankful for God's protection.

We had Chick-fil-a with friends after bible study and now naptime is coming to a close. Till next time!!

February 18, 2014

I get asked all the time as I travel around with my two boys, "How do you do it?". I always want to respond "do what?" but I know what they mean. How do I get around with my boys and function like a human being. I'm halfway between offended and complimented, because I don't think two kids is beyond comprehension, but most of the time I am asked this when both boys are being prefect angels. My response is always the same, "You just do it." If I had a million kids in tow I think my answer would be the same. I pray, I lean on Him, and I just do it. Wondering how to do it gets me nowhere at this point. Sometimes you just have to learn by experience.

Last Tuesday Robert got to try Sweet Potatoes for the first time, and he seemed less than impressed. I am beginning to get the feeling he is not too crazy about this "solid food thing". We've tried a little solid food every night, and every night he gets mad and I stop. If he keeps this up, he'll nurse until he's 20, and that's just not going to happen!

Wednesday, the boys and I went to Barnes & Noble for story time where I was yet again asked the same old question and gave the answer I listed above. I did look around and see other people's children behaving very poorly, so I sort of get it. William behaves well most of the time, and people take notice of it. I have high (reasonable but high) expectations for him, and he usually lives up to them. I don't know if this would work for everyone, as William in general is an easy kid, but sometimes I think expecting the best from your kid instead of "knowing" they'll act up may be a good place to start. No, I'm not going to write a book on the subject, I am far from an expert!!! After Barnes & Noble, we made stops at Party city and Walmart before coming home for lunch. My boys are such troopers. Lesser children would not have made it. In the afternoon, we took Bella for her doggie annual and she actually gained a couple of pounds!! She is still underweight, but at least we are making progress.

Thursday, I went to MOMS bible study, which was AWESOME, and then headed to attend the end of a Valentine's party at a neighbor's (Ashly's) house. William got to play with Ranger in the morning, and then Oliver at noon. After a nap, he played with Rex, our next door neighbor's kid. You can't say this kid isn't social. He is an extrovert all the way!

Friday was Valentine's Day! William (and Robert) woke up to donuts and presents and cards from his parents, Sweetie, Nana and Mom Noble. He loved everything! Robert got toys and cards too, but was most enthusiastic about a frog toy that made noise. My boys are well loved! Well, I took my car to get the oil changed, and from the shop, the boys and I walked to the library which is across the street. We checked out books and hung around until the car was ready and headed back. Well, When we got to the intersection and were waiting to cross, William popped out of the stroller (without permission!) and fell. I ran and grabbed him, his head inches from the tire of the passing 18-wheeler truck. I could feel the wind from the truck, and knew I was less than a foot from scraping against it's side. I cried, grateful and scared, that God had protected us. William strapped himself back into the stroller and is very aware of trucks and cars now. He tells me all the time how he will listen and not get hit by a truck. He actually told me right afterward, "Mommy, I not want to get hit by truck and die. I want to stay with you and you take care of me." It really made an impression on him and I am glad. Maybe it will save his life along the way. I know God has great things planned for this boy, and I am so excited to see what He has in store. After we picked up my car, we had lunch at Freddy's with Angel and Ranger, complete with Frozen Custard for dessert. After a nap and quiet afternoon, Francis picked the three of us up and took us to Cheddar's for a Valentine's Dinner. I am so glad I have a husband who is willing to take me out even though we already had our Valentine's. He's a keeper.

Saturday we all got up bright and early and drove to Houston for my niece Abby's 3rd birthday party. The theme was Princess. Everything was purple and sparkly. William and Robert had a great time and the birthday girl was delighted with the birthday festivities! We also celebrated her dad, Chris's birthday with BBQ for dinner. His birthday is the day after hers, so we always end up lumping the two together. I hope they know they are both special!

Sunday we took it easy, Church, nap and tacos. Nothing says "day of rest" like homemade tacos, yum!

Francis has yesterday off (Presidents' Day) and so he was able to join us after William's Little Gym class for lunch at 5 Guys. William was so happy to have him there that he actually said, "Mommy I want to have lunch with Daddy by myself, not with you!" After a moment, though, he repented and said he wanted to have lunch with everyone. He's so funny. After lunch Francis went back with us for Practice time and got to see all the boys are learning. They are growing up so quick!!! Francis took William home for a nap while I stayed with Robert for his class. Then William got his wish and Francis and William went to the Thinkery for the rest of the afternoon. A happier little boy you will seldom meet. He came home and told me about all the fun stuff they did together. Pizza was on order for dinner and was a perfect end to the day. Robert tried squash, but was not a fan. He did, however like the taste of pizza sauce Francis gave him. That boy!

Today has been a day of cleaning, laundry, dishes and grocery shopping. William is a good helper, but he can be a little too enthusiastic. The phrase two steps forward and one step back comes to mind. His heart is in the right place. I'm so glad to have a willing child, and I try to always tell him I'm thankful.

My finger is still in a finger brace. It's been nearly two weeks now, and I wish it would hurry up and heal. I guess I'll just have to be patient. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to type using all my fingers! Till then!

February 11, 2014

Well, it's official! As of today I have a 5 month old (that happened yesterday) and a 2 1/2 year old. They sure keep me busy! We've had quite a week!

Last Monday morning we grocery shopped and tried to recover from our trip. William had to go through detox of having no grandparents and kept asking for each in turn. Robert, on the other hand, had a great time as he discovered how to maneuver the walker around the house. That's right, my little guy is mobile! He figured out how to go backwards in the morning and forwards by the evening. A happier baby you seldom will see! Monday afternoon Robert had his first class at the Little Gym. Both boys did great! Robert was cooperative, interactive and really liked flipping. I am so proud! William played outside in the lobby on the Tablet and behaved admirably. I'm glad I have such sweet kids!

Tuesday William had his last Little gym class as a "beast". He is now a "super beast" (ages 2 1/2-3 years). Graduating was good because he had outgrown the class and was happy to move up calling himself a "big boy!" Tuesday Robert rolled from back to front independently for the first time. In fact on Sunday the ladies sang "Rolling on the River" as Robert made his way across the classroom, but I get ahead of myself.

Wednesday morning I met with a little accident. I was picking up a bowl form the counter to put in the dishwasher and a plate stuck to it. I picked up so quickly that the plate released in midair, landing on my left pinky and shattering. I think I broke my pinky and it had been in a splint ever since. I had to suck it up and go to MOPS since I had the coloring sheets for the kids. After a nap, our neighbor Ashly and her two boys came over to play. They are fun! We should get together more often.

Thursday was a strange day. Francis had to work Thursday night so he had the day off to play with us. We went to the Aquarium, Chick-fil-a, the Mall and then dinner at Golden Coral. It was a day of great memories.

Friday, Angel and Ranger came over for a while and the boys played. Having not grown up with brothers, I still find it incomprehensible that boys want to wrestle at every possible opportunity. Ranger and William kept getting in trouble for it (though they were having a great time). Boys will be boys. Friday evening we dropped the boys off at church and did Valentine's early by having dinner at Fleming's steakhouse. The steak I had melted in my mouth. Some of the best food I've ever eaten, and the company was top notch. I had the best date with the best date, He's a keeper!

Saturday we cleaned in the morning, and after lunch (grilled cheese while watching the opening of the Olympics recorded), William was inspired to go skating with Francis. They had a great time. I watched as my two-year-old became more and more steady on his skates to the point he could be on the ice without falling down, and even "walk" a little. He isn't an Olympic hopeful just yet, but he was able to walk on his skate on the ground by the end with no trouble. Hockey practice, here we come! After skating we spent the remainder of the afternoon with Angel, Austin and Ranger at the aquarium and the mall. William passed out in the car on the way home and didn't wake up until the middle of the night. I'm so glad we finally were able to wear him out!

Sunday we did church, had lunch with our Sunday school class, and then came home to enjoy our day of rest. I woke up from my nap more tired than I was before, but tired is the new normal. At least for me. Everyone else (except maybe Francis) seems to be doing just fine. One funny thing happened. On the way home William said, "I listened to my teachers. They told me not to hit my friends. I hit Jackson. But then I said sorry and I don't want to hit him again." I asked him if he hit again and he responded, "No mommy. I listen to my teachers. Hitting not nice. I not hit again." Well, I'm glad he listened! Another side note: everyone who watches Robert calls him a delight. He rarely fusses for them and has an easy smile (not unlike his brother), so I can see why they say that. It's just funny that every single worker says he's a "delight" no matter where we are. I'm not complaining!!!

Also Sunday night, Robert had another milestone: his first food! I mixed some milk with oatmeal and fed it to my baby boy. He ate it admirably. Probably more came out than stayed in, but he seemed to enjoy the texture. I can't wait for him to try other foods. He always tried to eat whatever I am, and pretty soon, he will!

Yesterday we had William's first super beasts class at the Little Gym. Since he will soon be going to class without me, they work on giving the kids more independence. It was great. William was able to follow directions all by himself. I was amazed at all he did without me saying a word. After class, we had lunch at chick-fil-a and then headed back to the Little Gym for practice time. Robert's class was after practice time and it wasn't worth going home.  So we basically will be living at the Little Gym on Mandays, but it worked out well. Two other older children were also there during Robert's class, so Miss Amy put out legos for William and the others in the party room and one of the ladies' mothers watched the kids while we were in class. When we got home, William took a two hour nap before I woke him up. It was a good day. Those boys have more energy than I know what to do with!

Today We have been to the grocery store so far, had lunch and then played with Legos. Well, William and I played with Legos and Robert practiced rolling. Today he's finally able to do it on command. He's so proud of himself and I am too. He sometimes laughs when he rolls, which is extra adorable.

Well, I need to go clean while the boys nap. I would like to nap, but I know that as soon as I lay my head down, one of them will wake up. Maybe it's all in my head, but somehow they just know. Until next time!

Christian's Wedding Week Part 2

Part 2, to begin where I left off...Wednesday I got to meet my friend Candace and her new baby which was very special. Wednesday night went the boys and I went to Pei Wei with my in-laws, and quite honestly, it's the last non-wedding thing I can remember doing until after the reception was over.

Thursday two of Christian's bridesmaids, May and maid-of-honor Kristen (not to be confused with sister Kristen), came in in the morning to be with Christian. I set up for the bachelorette party in the morning at my parent's house, then picked up William and my dad's tux as well as the cupcakes for the party with my parents and the boys, and then continued to set up for the party (with Christian, May and MOH Kristen to help) well into the afternoon. By the time the party was ready to start, the house was like a beautiful explosion of Paris and Pink. As the guests arrived, each got to make their own pizza and then we cooked them in one of my mother's double ovens. It worked out great, and everyone was fed. I got to see people I haven't since high school and also was reminded why I was so fond of them back then (Courtney, Sara, Caylie and Casey, don't be strangers!). I was also able to make new friends, and spend time with others I hold so dear all the time (like Ashley, Danielle, and of course the bride!). It was a great party. We played fish bowl using memories we had of Christian and then got to tell the memories at the end. We had a pinata that Christian got to break open. We played Mafia like we haven't done since we were children. I had a blast and I think everyone else did too. Such a good night.

Friday my mother-in-law took William to the Dallas Zoo for the day while Robert and I went to the bridesmaid's luncheon at Mimi's cafe. We all got to meet Chad's sister Christian and just have a nice lunch with the ladies from the wedding party (moms and grandmothers included). After lunch, the bridesmaids and Christian went for Manicures and pedicures to begin the beautification process.  After some time with the bride, we went back and got dressed for the rehearsal. William (with my in-laws) and Francis (who just arrived in town) met me at the church for the rehearsal. William did great, holding the flower girl's hand down the aisle. It was super cute. William and Robert went back to the house with my in-laws while Francis and I along with the rest of the wedding party headed onto the rehearsal dinner at Rudy's. The dinner was good and my parents made Chad and "official" citizen of Texas complete with certificate. It was fun.

Saturday, my mother in law and I got up bright and early and headed over to my parents house along with Robert. My mom hired a hair lady and makeup lady to do everyone's hair and makeup for the big day. All the ladies turn out gorgeous, and it was very low stress overall. My mother in law took care of Robert while I got all my stuff done, which was an amazing help. I cannot say enough nice things about Francis's parents, especially his mom. They did everything possible to help with the kids so I could spend as much time and energy on the bride as possible. I could not have done all I did without them! Anyway, after we had all had lunch, we headed up to church to get dressed. My mother zipped up Christian and she looked like one of the prettiest bride's there's ever been. Her dress was white, tea-length, with a halter top, beaded belt, and beautiful lace all over. The most radiant part of her though was the light glowing from her face. She was so happy and we were so happy for her. The wedding ceremony was perfect, and I cried through it (even though I tried not to). Chad too looked like he was going to cry, which made the moment that much sweeter. The minister was so nervous (his hands were shaking), but he did a splendid job; the ceremony was short but sweet. Afterward was a ceremony full of swing dancing (how they met) and general dancing by almost everyone present. The DJ said it is the most people he'd ever seen on a dance floor. The cakes were delicious (the groom's cake was a duck with a crown on it for the Noble-Drake wedding), and the first dance was something out of a movie. Chad was even kind enough to dance with both Danielle and I in turn, which was extra special to be sure. at the end of the night, we gathered around the bride and groom, sang to them in a circle, and then blew bubbles as they took off in their car for their hotel. It was a perfect day for one of the sweetest couples I know.

Here are two poems to describe the day, the day. The second was actually on the guestbook table, and I am so honored that it was.

Dawn breaks
The bride awakes
Her love is waiting
The time has come

The curls of her hair
Are gently folded
Onto her head
And Softly Pinned in place

The features on her face
Are painted with a shade
So tender, lovely
Hinting at the beauty beneath

Hidden in her cheek
Is a kiss so sought
Today it will be given
O joyous day

Once clothed In lacy white
The bells all peal
And piano plays
As she enters marking time

Her love in black and white
Receives her hand
The one he intends to hold
Till death they part

Kind minister
Begins the celebration
Vows exchanged
Rings given

With one kiss
Their covenant is sealed
That none shall break
And God has blessed

Then the festivities commence
To honor bride and groom
To dance and laugh and smile
A party for the ages

But finally the time has come
As bubbles flow through the air
For the couple to bid adieu
The parting is bittersweet

For though the wedding is over
A marriage now begins
And where Christ joins together
The love will never end

And the other:

A Bridal Boogie

Dance Bride Dance
Let your tea length gown sway
Let your silver shoes move
To the swinging beat all day

Move Groom move
Flip and spin your wife
Let her tender curls twirl
To your heart’s delight

Play Music play
On this blessed wedding day
Bring us to the place
Where wedded bliss lay

Groove family groove
Rejoice in this union true
Celebrate Christ’s love for them
Where one is more than two

We had a lot of help cleaning up so everything was done quickly after the happy couple left. Right before they left, Danielle and I went to ask Christian a question as she changed, and found her and mother having a conversation. The four of us got to have one last hug. I was just glad to have one little moment with her to remember that day. She's a keeper, that Christian. Chas is a lucky man.

Sunday Francis, the boys, and I headed back to Austin before an ice storm hit Plano. I seem to be good at missing weather events,. We got home, unpacked and watched a disappointing Super Bowl. The highlight of the day was Robert's Baby kisses, which he has learned to give at will. He now grabs our faces, kisses them, laughs and lets go. It's adorable.

So, we're home now. I'm so glad to be back but feel like I'll never catch up. I'll post next time about all that has happened this week. Till then!

Christian's Wedding week Part 1

It's been two weeks since I posted. To my credit, I haven't really had access to a computer to write. To make this less of a novel, I will split this up into two posts.

I have to back up to Wednesday before last when Angel and I wrote the MOPs curriculum for the kids and got all the supplies together. It was a long morning, but we got almost everything done and I am so glad. I am blessed to have someone like Angel to lean on when there is a big project around. Oh, and the boys were pretty good too, which was an extra bonus.

Thursday after feverishly packing and then enjoying some wonderful fellowship with my ladies Bible Study, the boys and I got in the car and headed to Dallas. It's a good thing too, since if we had left a few hours later we would have been stuck in Austin due to an enormous amount of ice collecting on the roads. We left just before it fell to freezing. It was a blessing. We made it mid-afternoon to Plano and my in-laws' house, and Francis and his dad made it to the Stars-Maple Leafs hockey game on time. The Stars dominated, but I think Francis still had fun.

Friday I went shopping with Francis, the boys, my mother-in-law and my mom. It was so much fun and I got a lot of things done. William and Robert got spoiled and I was able to get a good amount off my to do list. Friday evening my in-laws babysat and Francis and I went to dinner with Ashley and Josh and Brandon and Bethany. Ashley was the maid of honor in our wedding and Brandon was the best man. I am sure three couples have rarely had so much fun. We had dinner and then went back to Ashley and Josh's house to play Settler's of Catan. It was nice to be a grown up and just enjoy an evening. Those days become precious when they are few and far between.

Saturday afternoon the Cotnoirs (extended family of Francis) came over to my in-laws and the guys played Risk and the girls played Settler's of Catan (I won!). William and Jonathan (the youngest Cotnoir) played around the house and had a pretty good time. William is so social that it is always fun to see him with a playmate.

Sunday after church, my mother, Danielle, the boys and I went shopping for a dress for Danielle followed by meeting up with my dad and all having dinner with Christian and Chad (aka the bride and groom). Francis headed home right after church and came home in time to have a quiet evening, the opposite of the wonderful loud evening I had with my family. Good times.

Monday was an epic day. I fit more stuff in than I thought possible. William, Robert and I went to Grapevine Mills Mall with Kristi and her daughter Olivia and Kaitlyn. We started by going to the aquarium which by itself would have been amazing. The place was so well designed and William loved all the creatures, standing forever in the 360 tunnel while sharks swam overhead. Then we all went to Rainforest Cafe. This part was not so awesome as William was terrified most of the time and even cried during the rainstorm. Poor guy. We then went to LegoLand and rode rides, built with legos and William spent over an hour racing his lego car down a ramp. My favorite ride was a shooting ride kind of like the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyworld. It was amazing. We came off exhausted, but happy.

Tuesday I got to take the boys to KidMania, a 4 story high playplace with an arcade. Christian got off work early and joined us, even caving in and buying William a game card. After a while, we met my mom for lunch at the mall and did a little shopping before heading back to the house. Then after a nap, we had dinner with Christian before getting her a much needed new phone. I loved getting some one on one time with my sister, and the boys got to have a little "Auntie Chrissy" time and "sweetie" time, which they always treasure!

Well, that's all I have time for. Tune in again soon for part 2! It occurs to me there was not much mention of Christian's wedding, but trust me when I say the next part will be full of details!
