May 21, 2014

I'll try to keep this short.

Both boys are sick, and I feel a bit fatigued myself, though I am not sure if that is due to lack of sleep or actual illness. Robert keeps spiking a fever and William juts started a low grade fever a couple of hours ago. When it rains, it pours I guess.

Last Wednesday Angel, Ranger, the boys and I went to Story time at Barnes and Noble. Nothing much to report except it is always good to get out of the  house. Thursday the boys and I met Arlene and Caitlyn on 35 and we took a drive up to Waco to go to the zoo there for the day (about an 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive). We met Arlene's roommate from college and her kids there and it was a lovely day. William loved seeing all the animals, and he and Robert were both so tired that they slept almost the whole way back. It was great!

Friday I drove to check out a park near by and realized I'd been missing out on a treasure! The Northeast Metro Park by us has a bunch of playgrounds, a splash pad and a skate park. Who knew? The boys and I played on one of the playgrounds before heading home. Saturday morning, we took Francis back to the park and played on a different playground (both were covered with shade), before having lunch at Freddy's custard. If that weren't enough fun, we met up with the Davis's after nap and went to Austin's Park for the afternoon/evening. It's a small theme park with mini golf, a few rides, race cars, laser tag and video games. It was so fun. Angel and I played laser tag and even though I was wearing a white shirt, I still came in 3rd (of 20)! Yay me!!

Sunday after church, a VBS meeting, and a nap, we went back to the Metro park and had a picnic dinner as a family. Francis flew kites both days he was there much to William's delight. The weather was perfect and it was so wonderful to be outside.

Monday, Robert started acting funny and had a runny nose. That night he spiked a fever of almost 102. I took him to the doctor yesterday and in addition to whatever cold he has, he had an ear infection. So more antibiotics...yay... He's still running a fever and miserable. It makes me want to cry that he can't get comfortable.

Today, William has just come down with the same thing. So...I am going to go take a nap if I can, because it is likely to be a long night. Please keep us in your prayers!!

What a big, wonderful week!!!

Happy Mother's Day! I not only had one day, but a whole weekend of Mother's Day festivities. Francis and the boys spoiled me and I loved every minute of it. But I'm getting ahead of myself!

Last Wednesday was our last MOPS meeting. It was a great year, and I will miss our meetings because I always learn something important! Thursday, Arlene and I went shopping at the mall with our kiddos and Angel and Ranger met us for lunch. I love these ladies and so any time with them is time well spent! Friday morning, Arlene, Morgan and I had a picnic with our kids at the All Abilities Park and fun was genuinely had by all, though it was getting a bit on the hot side by the time we left.

Friday night was the last Parents' night out at church until after summer. After dropping off the kids, Francis took me to Estancia Churriscuria (a Brazilian Steakhouse) for a wonderful meal and he presented me with a gorgeous necklace/pendant. I told him never to get me jewelry, but this one is very pretty! Saturday morning, I was able to sleep in a little, while Francis and William made cinnamon rolls. Delicious! The Francis and William ran a bunch of errands (I mean a bunch) while Robert and I cleaned up the house a little. We all met for lunch at Phil's Ice House where William was able to run around and play on the playground. After lunch, I got to go shopping with just Robert and found a couple of shirts (yay!) followed by a glorious nap for everyone but Francis back at the house. For dinner, we had Indian food (which we rarely have because Francis doesn't much like it), so I didn't have to cook!

Sunday morning, Francis got up before the sun rose, and went to get kolaches for me, and the boys served me breakfast in bed. I got some sweet cards, and another necklace from William (this one was 2 hearts). After an amazing church service, we had lunch at Outback Steakhouse where there was NO WAIT! What are the odds? After the boys napped, we talked to my mom, Francis's mom, and his Nana Phillips in Montreal, wishing all of them a very happy day. It was the best Mother's Day ever. The only thing that could have made it better, was being with all of the "mothers" (mom, mother-in-law and grandmothers) that I hold so dear. I love you all!

Yesterday was Little Gym Day. I signed the boys up for next year, and with William being free since he won the grand prize, and Robert having the sibling discount, both boys cost only $600 for the year! Now that's a deal!

Today, we finally applied for Robert's passport. I was a little nervous that I would forget some of the paperwork (we had to go all the way back to the house when we did William's), but everything was smooth and the woman even remarked how rare it is that everything is filled out properly. So, we should have his passport in the next 4 weeks. Yay!

William is turning into more of a almost 3-year-old each day. He is becoming more and more independent, as well as more and more opinionated. It's fun to hear him talk and learn, but some of our conversations end up with us having to agree to disagree. He has a mind of his own, and I am glad he is using it!

And the biggest news! Just before putting the boys down for a nap, Robert did what I would call his first legitimate crawl forward! He did it a couple of times, but I was unable to get a good video. Hopefully I can get one this evening. He was thrilled to finally go in the direction he desired without having to roll. army crawl, or turn around after scooting backwards. Where was he headed, you ask? He crawled over to turn on the Bluray player. He's a mess! A cute, lovable, crawling mess!

Well, that's it for now!!!

May 6, 2014

It's been a couple of weeks since someone pointed out that Robert is in fact a blondie now. I hadn't noticed, but all of his baby black hair is now gone.  It happened so slowly that it took someone saying it out loud for it to hit me. Anyway, since that has happened, everywhere we go people keep telling me how alike they look. I knew they looked alike, but now they look like two steps in the same progression with their handsome daddy being the endpoint. I'm glad I think Francis is handsome, because I've got two boys who are going to look just like him!

Well, it finally happened, William and Robert had their first real confrontation. Robert was in the stand up (sit down) walker and William was wheeling around the push walker when they collided at the kitchen entry. Robert wanted into the living room and William wanted into the kitchen. They pushed on each other for a minute before I told William he had to back up to let Robert through as he had pushed Robert up against the wall. This did not go over well, and William angrily yelled and lifted up the walker as if to strike something or someone (which is REALLY out of character for him). He was sent straight to time out. Robert thought the whole display was hilarious, and so he went over to where William was in timeout and started ramming him with the walker. I was washing dishes and I hear William screaming, "Robert! That's not nice! Go away! I'm in time out! Leave me alone!!!" Robert meanwhile is laughing hysterically. I move the walker to another room, but Robert immediately goes back and starts ramming William again, laughing all the way. Needless to way, I had to pick up Robert and hold him while William finished in time out and then both boys had to apologize to each other. But, Robert now knows how to taunt William. It's becoming more of an even playing field all the time. On the bright side, they played the rest of the day with no problems. I am so glad they are the forgiving sort!

Last Wednesday I thought we were supposed to have our last MOPS meeting of the year. I didn't realize it was the 5th Wednesday of the month (and not the first Wednesday of May), and neither did Angel. We were the only two to show up, haha. So, we did what any respectable woman would do, we went shopping! It was a fun morning and we actually got a lot done. We finished by having lunch at BJs before parting ways. Good times!

Thursday, the ladies from my MOM Bible study met for a play date at one of our mentor mom's homes. Faye's house is the house used in the movie Bernie. It's quite a house and William loved seeing all the stuffed deer and other animals. He even laid on a real bear rug and wolf rug. Faye's husband is quite a hunter! I had fun with the ladies and the kids had a blast on the front drive riding their bikes and playing with toys. I could do that every day!

Friday I faced my fear and walked from the car place (after dropping off Francis's car for an oil change) to the library. It was the first time I'd walked that way since William's near-death experience. William stayed close to me and we talked about how important it is to be aware of what's going on around you. It was a positive experience and the best part is, we have library books again! I've missed checking them out and so has William.

Saturday was a big day. My in-laws came in late Friday night and Saturday we all drove to San Antonio where we met Francis's sister Cyndy, Chris and Abby for a day of fun at Sea World. We got tickets both the SeaWorld and Aquatica so we headed into the water park as soon as it opened. William and I found the water too cold (Robert didn't put on his swim suit in favor of a nap with his Nana), but Francis did a few slides and had fun. We did ride one ride (Francis, William and I) that was a large raft and at the end you floated under the stingray tank. That was pretty cool. Later in the afternoon, we all saw the Shamu show before packing up and having dinner back down the road a little way. We celebrated Mother's Day with Francis's mom and gave her her cards (her gift had not come in yet). It was a fun time! We did find out Robert likes Dip N Dots ice cream. A man after my own heart!

I also found out that Robert will eat Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets with great enthusiasm. I got a video of him yesterday and it is so cute. It only he'd eat other things so happily! I did get him to gnaw on some pizza through his special spoon last night, and he had a few baby puffs as well. Maybe (maybe?) we'll be on the other side of this on and off food boycott soon!

That's it for now!
