April 29, 2014

What have we done over the past week. A lot of visiting the Dr. A lot of being sick. And a lot of trying to keep on going despite feeling stuffed up and yucky. Yeah, that about sums it up.

We've all been allergy ridden and coughing for weeks, but Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, William's cough turned ugly. So that morning, I went ahead and took both boys to the Dr. and she said that William had a sinus infection, but Robert was still only congested. She prescribed antibiotics for William and breathing treatments for both boys. William was excited about both the medicine and the breathing treatment (as he asks for both on a near daily basis anyway), but Robert screamed bloody murder during treatment and has continued to do so each time since.

Thursday, we went to the last Moms Together Bible Study of the year. It was a very sweet and emotional time, and William's class did a mini concert for us at the end. William actually sang this time. I have a video. The entire song he is singing a high pitched, enthusiastic, "do do do do do". I guess someone told him if you can't remember the words, just sing "do" because that's what he did! It was adorable and I couldn't help but smile.

Friday, the boys and I went to the aquarium in the morning before I came back and quickly cleaned as much of the house as I could. Rachael Heard came in town in the afternoon to go to a concert with the new guy she is dating (small world, my friend from college who lives in San Antonio is dating the bassist at my church), and she came by to hang out for a bit beforehand. She brought the boys some sweet gifts, and our time was far too brief. After she left I took the boys to The Little Gym of Round Rock's 2nd birthday party. William loved it, especially the cake.

Saturday we all spent a little time with Rachael before she headed home (she stayed at our house after the concert), and then Francis, the boys and I went to Lakeline Mall. We got there right after the mall opened, and the Frozen stuff had just gone on sale. We bought William and Olaf doll, and then bought a couple of other things that we ended up not needing. William was indifferent about his Olaf doll until they sold out and every kid and adult that he passed in the mall asked him where he got it. then he wouldn't let Olaf out of his sight! Silly boy. I got a haircut at the mall. It's short and I like it. Robert is now unable to pull my hair out, and that is the best feeling of all!

Sunday morning, Francis and William went to church, but Robert and I had to go to the after-hours clinic as we both coughed all night long. Three hours later, we were both home with sinus infections, ear infections, and antibiotics too. The Dr. was worried about my breathing and even prescribed an inhaler. It makes me all jittery, but at least I can breath. We all still have a lingering cough, but that can last for weeks apparently. Yay...

This week has been business as usual with stuffy heads and tired bodies. I feel like I'm improving, but only a drop at a time. Better than getting worse though!!!

Robert has been eating more food, but none of is is baby food. He's taking after his Aunt Dani and skipping over baby food, it seems. He loved the chicken from Chick-fil-a that he got little tiny particles at a time and managed to consume a whole nugget. Today he ate 3 strawberries through a special kind of mesh spoon. he is also mastering his pincher grasp and picking up cereal and puffs to eat. I'm just glad he's eating!! He is also becoming more mobile. Although his crawl is still only backwards, he seldom stays anywhere near where I set him down. He is pulling up to standing on anything and everything and moves around accordingly. William encourages him (perhaps too much sometimes), and the two boys are nearly inseparable. I'm so blessed!

That's is for now!

April 22, 2014

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Such a wonderful week!

Well, William waited with anticipation all week and after a wonderful MOPS on Wednesday and MOMS Bible Study Thursday, it was finally time. We packed up the car and made the 4 1/2 hour journey to Tyler. we left the dogs (and their kennels) behind and filled the roof rack and part of the trailer, and I still am not sure we packed everything we intended to. I sat in the backseat with the boys (no easy task) because the front seat was completely full of stuff. We arrived around 10:30 or 11 and thanks to my parent's the tent was already set up and well lit. It was such a blessing to just be able to unload and put the kids to bed. Angel, Austin, and Ranger Davis arrived some time later, and Francis helped them set up.

Friday morning was one of the most gorgeous mornings God ever made. In fact, the whole day was perfect. great weather, awesome company including my sister Danielle, and very few bugs. My mom, Danielle, Francis, the boys, and the Davis family all went to the Caldwell zoo and played for a good part of the day. We came back in time for the boys to all take good naps. Angel and Austin took the boys out paddle boating in the afternoon. I think these boys were made for camping. Well, the kids of camping we do, anyway. they love the lake and grass and dirt, not to mention the fire and the food. A steak dinner grilled by my dad was excellent that evening. The day was finished off by a small service at the shoreline of the lake where we had the Lord's supper. It was a special time, even though our numbers were low this year (only 35 people). We of course also had a campfire, stories and s'mores (which Ranger and William liked) before we put the kids to bed.

Saturday was equally stunning in all respects. We had a morning Easter egg hunt with just Ranger, William and Robert. the boys all got to have bunny ears and dyed eggs while Francis hid the one with the candy. Robert was both confused and intrigued by the idea of hunting eggs, and tried to put each on in his mouth before I could get him to put it in the basket. The big boys (William and Ranger) ran about with delight as they filled their baskets. My mom got them each a special bunny and chick egg which was filled with candy and money. That's my kind of egg! After lunch and an attempted nap, we went down to the camp egg hunt where the creepy Easter bunny scared children and adults alike, hehe. I was going to have Robert sit out on this one, but he whined enough that Aunt Dani took him over to the race so he could get one egg to chew on (he was uninterested in the candy). William and Ranger got a bunch more eggs, and on the way to dinner at our favorite Mexican food place, the candy coma kicked in for William. He woke up for dinner finally. That evening after all kids were asleep, we played Psychiatrist with Austin as the guinea pig. He did pretty well! The guys and girls then split off and the ladies played wits and wagers (mom won), and the men played settlers of Catan inside the camper. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time.

Sunday morning, Francis and William attended the service put on by the campground while I only caught the end of it with Robert. Francis decided I needed the sleep. He wasn't wrong. When we got back to the campsite, William recited the whole story of Jesus's death and Resurrection. It made my heart leap with joy that he knows it so well. He's a sharp kid who asks good questions and I know he understands a lot. After lunch we all parted ways with my family (the Davis's left early that morning) and headed home. This is not a trip we will soon forget!

Not much else to report. Robert is still in the "I'll try a food but don't expect me to actually swallow" phase, but he's doing better. The last couple of nights he has actually taken a bottle. I'm hoping this is a good sign!

Till next time!

April 15, 2014

Tax Day! Seems anticlimactic when we filed our taxes back in February, but it feels good not to have to panic!

More importantly this Sunday is Easter, and for our family and my extended family, that means camping. We've been camping over Easter weekend almost as long as I can remember. I love having a service on the lake at Tyler State Park. Something about being in nature helps keep the focus on Christ for me. Maybe it's just easier to think about Him when I am in the middle of His creation, I don't know.

All that to say, much of this past week had been focused on packing (or over packing) for leaving on Thursday. William has talked of little else, even butting in on two random adults who were talking about camping to interject that he was getting to go camping too! The Davis' are coming with us this year in addition to my parents, Danielle, and my people from my parent's Sunday School class. It should be a wonderful time, especially since our cell phones will likely have spotty coverage at best (Yes, I like taking Francis places where work can't reach him. I think he likes it too.). When you see a truck that's loaded beyond capacity, that's us!

Two events of note are that we've had lunch with Arlene and Caitlyn twice in the past week, and William attended our neighbor Oliver's 3rd birthday party on Saturday. William is really getting to have friends he plays with, calls by name, and tells me stories about. It's fun to see him build those relationships that good friendships are made of.

Robert has two teeth now. The second came in on Sunday (at least that is when Robert opened his mouth enough for me to see it). He's also able to sit himself up at will and is up on all fours quite frequently rocking back and forth, though he has only managed to go backwards crawling at this point. William is his biggest cheerleader, showing him how and coaxing him on. William keeps hoping today is the day, and if those boys have anything to say about it, it will be!

William asked me, "when you turn the car, mommy, why do I get pulled the other way? And when we hit a bump, why do I get pushed into the air?" (No I wasn't driving like a wild lady.) How does one explain inertia to a 2 year old? I did my best and I think he understood a little, although he asked Francis the same question on Sunday. Francis tried to explain inertia using scientific terms at first and that didn't go over well. William is a thinker. I am not sure he's always prepared for the answers, but at least he asks the questions!

Now, back to packing!

April 8, 2014

For the sake of brevity, I'll give you a quick overview of the week and then hit a couple highlights!

Last Wednesday and Thursday the boys and I attended Mops and Moms (Bible study). I hate to gloss over these, because they were both wonderful times, but there it is.

Friday was amazing. I received a text message from my sister-in-law Cyndy inviting the boys and I to meet her halfway in Brenham to take a tour of the Bluebell factory. How could I say no to family, especially when ice cream is involoved?! So we packed into the car and made the 1 1/2 drive to Brenham. The wind was cold, but after a picnic lunch with Cyndy and cousin Abby, we put on our bluebell hats and took the tour. They don't let you take pictures on the tour, but Abby and William standing side by side and looking down at the machines in their hats would have been one of the cutest photos ever. Robert was even fascinated by all the moving parts. After the tour, we had our obligatory ice cream. William and Abby ran around the cow statue a bit before we drove a little down the road and Cyndy got some bluebonnet cousin pictures. They turned out beautifully! My personal favorite is one of Abby and William smiling really big while William holds Robert. Robert was not in a smiley mood (which is rare for him), but we got a couple of him studying the flowers which are precious! So, overall a great cousin day!!! Thanks to my favorite sister-in-law!

Saturday was supposed to be a busy day. God had other plans. I had not had sleep in days (like 9 hours total over 4 nights). Francis, the boys and I went to Home Depot to get some stuff for the yard. After we arrived, William told us he did not feel well, so we hurried to the check out and headed home. William threw up in the car. He had a high fever, so we changed his clothes when we got home, showered him off and put him to bed. He slept for a couple of hours, and then laid on the couch and watched TV. He was so out of it, he didn't even notice Francis and I eat Chick-fil-a at the kitchen table right by him. Well, after lunch, I decided to lay down and take a short nap. 3 1/2 hours later I woke up suddenly and realized I needed to make dinner. I guess I was tired! William had taken another nap and his fever had broken so he had some pedialyte. potato soup, chicken noodle soup and toast. He felt much better.

Sunday, I planned on doing all the yard work that I had missed the day before, but again God forced me to choose rest by making it rain. After church and lunch it was still raining, and I really wanted to see the new Captain America movie. Since a babysitter was no where to be found on short notice, Francis and I did the only logical thing and took turns seeing the movie. Francis went in the afternoon with Austin, bringing home pizza for dinner afterward. Then I went with Austin's wife Angel in the evening. It was a great movie! So glad I had Angel to see it with too!

Monday was Little Gym day and today was grocery day. Now for an update on the boys.

William is getting so imaginative. I know I say that, but it's true! The other day we were eating mac and cheese and he held up a person (they were shaped like the characters of "How to train your dragon") and said, "Hello, my name is Happy!" Although I don't condone him eating mac and cheese with his hands, I played along. "Hello Happy! How are you?" I held up my finger and said, "My name's pointer." William took the mac and cheese person and bit it in two. "Mommy, he cant talk, hehe. I ate his head...and his bum (bottom)." I responded, "I guess he's not so happy anymore." William shook his head. He's all boy, this one! He's still having nighmares, though, and he talks in his sleep. He's currently afraid of the ceiling fan, claiming it has eyes. He's talking about the vent holes, but even after he put his fingers up in them, he's no convinced. Please say a prayer for him, as no one in this house can sleep when he's so troubled.

Robert is also growing so fast! He was standing in his crib the other day smiling like the cat that ate the canary. He's pulling up and sitting up all the time. He gets on his hands and knees and rocks, but the "crawling" hasn't come yet. That's not to say he doesn't get around by rolling and scooting. This kid's pretty mobile! Oh, and we have a victory! Robert is finally eating food! In the past three days, he's eaten a French fry (don't ask), soft pizza crust, mum mums, baby food peas, and baby food squash (I gasped on the last two also!). What has led to this major turn of events? Control. Robert wants to feed himself. I attached a spoon to a baby food pouch and let him go to town. It was great! Now I know! The kid is a control freak. At least when it comes to food. Now I'm going to try giving him a bottle/sippy cup  to feed himself and see if we can end the night time feeding battle that we never win. It's worth a try! I'm just happy he's trying stuff for a change. Oh!! Robert got is FIRST TOOTH today! Well, I should say it came in again. Last time it went away, but this time it's here to stay. He's been gnawing on it for weeks, so I'm so pleased to see it has surfaced. His grin now has a tooth. It's super adorable.

Well, that's it for now!

April 1, 2014

Of course I end up posting on April Fool's Day, but I promise everything I say is legit!

We are finally recovered from our debilitating sickness, and finally I am getting back to life without wondering how much laundry I'm going to have to do when I wake up. We went to story time at Barnes and Noble last Wednesday and William had a blast. His friends Ranger, Caitlyn, Gracie and Vance were ALL there and each one wanted to sit by him at some point or other. It was super cute, especially since William was blissfully unaware how popular he was. He gladly sat next to and later played with whoever was nearby. Gotta love that kid!

Thursday's MOM's meeting was great. We threw a surprise book shower for one of the ladies in our group. It was fun and I am glad we were able make her feel special. My mother came in town Thursday night and took the boys and me out for dinner. William and Robert love their Sweetie so this was a special treat. She helped put the boys to bed which was also very fun.

Friday morning, my mother headed off to a day of meetings, and the boys and I went to the Disney store to finally pick up our copy of Frozen. We barely missed the opening ceremony for the store, but William got a fire fighter Mickey with his "free" $20 so he didn't care. We also got an autograph book and a buzz lightyear fan (which William picked because he thought Daddy would like it) for our trip to Disney World in September. As soon as Francis gets the time off approved, we'll book it. Then it will seem real.

Saturday, mom had meetings all day again, so Francis did the lawn in the morning and we then went to the mall for a special event they were hosting for kids. William got to meet the critter from the critter book series, hear all sorts of stories read aloud, meet the Easter bunny, do crafts and pick out a free book. He had a great time! He was pretty unsure of the Easter bunny, but he gave him a high five after he saw Robert do it. Robert was mostly confused by the whole thing, which was cute. That evening we met my mom for dinner before she headed back to Dallas. It's fun to have her visit, but I never feel like we see her enough!

Sunday we went to church, had lunch with the Davis's and then came home. I love our trips home from church in the car, because William always tells us what he learned at church and we always tell him what we learned. Currently we are studying revelation in the service. Try explaining that to a 2 1/2 year old. It's pretty entertaining and fun to hear all his questions! Sunday afternoon we went to a Luau party at The Little Gym. Ranger came too, and he and William played their hardest. I'm still unaccustomed to "boys" after growing up in a house of girls.

Yesterday was Little Gym day. Before we left, William asked to play his "Disney game", a game where you ride the rides from Disneyland using the Kinect. He's pretty good at it. Well, I told him he could play one game before we left, but then afterward, he wanted to stay home and play it all day. the entire day at Little Gym he asked me periodically when we were going to go home so he could play again. He finally got to play last night with Francis a couple of times (in exchange he had to go outside afterward to ride his bike and play with us), and he loves it. I hope the Disneyworld lives up to his expectations! He wants to play one time after he gets up from his nap, but since he has yet to fall asleep (or even lay down on his bed), he may have to wait until tomorrow. I now have another arrow in my quiver or special prizes, yay!

Robert has been growing so fast. He still refuses to put his knees down, but he pushes up on his legs and toes for many minutes at a time. He has really started to pull up more on things, so although I think he may not crawl for a bit, I think walking may happen earlier rather than later. He is as smiley as ever and sits up, rolls around, and scoots wherever he wants to get pretty much whatever he wants. He's a joy and is loved on (sometimes too much) by William. Oh! and when he's upset, he calls "mama" every time until I come. He's said it for a while now here and there, but over the past couple of weeks, I know for sure it is on purpose! It's too consistent to be on accident.

Going to have to cut this short. Duty calls!
