April 18, 2013

It's been a great week for the Phillips family. Although our country has been through a tough week, we know our hope rests in a risen savior.

First off, I forgot to mention something very important last week. William can both name (point to and say) and write the letters O and W. It's crazy! He did it for me twice last week when I told him to write his name. He made a W. Then he drew a circle and yelled "O!" as he pointed at it. He's done it many times since. I am so impressed. Even more impressive was Tuesday night when we were reading a Letters of the Alphabet book and William correctly said the sound of each letter (except Y and V) without any prompting. At first I just thought he was making noises, but they were all correct. I didn't teach him this and neither did Francis. I have no idea where he learned it, but I'm not complaining. He knows A said "ah" and B says "buh". I am constantly so amazed with his learning capabilities. He just turned 20 months! How can he be doing all this already???

The Global Impact Celebration went well last week. The Bass family who stayed with us have come and gone and we are glad they came. William shared and played so nicely with Anna and Micah (their two youngest children). William and Anna were almost inseparable all week. It was adorable. They would hold hands and cry if we separated them to go somewhere. My William is a flirt, but he's so kind it's hard to hold it against him. Don't believe he's a flirt (You don't read this very often then)? Just yesterday we were leaving the bathroom, and a cute little redheaded girl walks in. William waves and smiles, turning his body and walking backwards out of the bathroom so he can watch her walk away. He ran into and tripped over the little girl's mom while he was checking her out. Oops! It was pretty hilarious. Anyway, the missions week at our church was a great success. I look forward to see what God has in store for these awesome people in the days to come!

I had the Dr.'s appointment with the specialist yesterday. Francis came and picked me up while my mom (who is in town) watch William. The baby was soooo active on the sonogram (which was the size of the wall). We got to see all the chambers of the heart, the brain, the head, face, bones, fingers, toes, and every part of this new little human being. Everything is within normal range and looks healthy. Blood flow is good and heart rate was steady in the 140s. The nurse had trouble getting measurements because baby P was so active, but it made for an entertaining show for us. We found out what we are having but won't be sharing until Saturday at our gender reveal party, so stay tuned! We did get a video of the movement, so that was an extra bonus.

As I said, my mom is in town. William and I will be heading back with her tonight and getting him settled into my parents' house before Francis and I leave for Hawaii on Sunday. If you think about it, pray that we will have a relaxing time, that William will not feel like we abondoned him, and that my parents and in-laws will not get stressed out taking care of William. It will be an adventure for all. I already miss William and I haven't even left yet!

Until next time!

April 11, 2013

William is 20 months old today. How has so much of the year passed so quickly?

It's been a good, but busy week. Most of it was filled with grocery shopping, getting William adjusted to his new room, doing chores and trying to catch up on everything before the Missionary family got here yesterday...but I get a bit ahead of myself.

My mom came in last Friday. Together we got the last of the decorations for the Gender Reveal Party (we find out what we are having this Wednesday!), and had dinner at Red Robin. We we were next to the cashier's stand (it was behind the glass) and William flirted with every female waitress that came by. Especially the cute blonde ones. He would reach between the booth and the glass to get their attention, wave, smile, giggle, play peekaboo and do every charming move in the book until we would make him turn around and sit to eat. Once he got it into his head that he needed to be back with the waitresses and made a bee line for the kitchen/cashiers stand. He nearly made it too. The waitresses were delighted. He's a cutie to be sure. All you single ladies better watch out...that's all I have to say.

On Tuesday, Francis got to feel the baby move for the first time. Francis has just finished dinner when I felt the kiddo moving (William was already in bed). I quickly moved Francis's hand to feel, but baby stopped. This game of cat and mouse continued for several minutes until I pushed Francis's hand against my belly and Baby P decided to roll over. "Did you feel that?" I asked excitedly. "I sure felt something!" Francis responded. We waited a while, but baby was done showing off. Francis had a goofy grin the rest of the night. He's such a great dad.

I've spent this week cleaning like a madwoman for the missionary family to be able to stay in our home. The Bass Family lives in Rhode Island where they are currently nurturing a church they planted in August 2008. Elizabeth and Derek have four children ranging in age from 6 1/2 to 16 months. They left their older two children with Derek's parents in Houston, so we are only hosting four members of the Bass family. They are so sweet and we look forward to getting to know them better as the week progresses. Please keep them and their work in your prayers as they are here at our church for the Global Impact Celebration where we are able to learn about their work and encourage them as they press on towards the goal. We are so honored to be able to serve them this week.

William is adjusting nicely to his new room. He doesn't like the closet door open at night and whines unless we close it. He also still climbs in bed with us in the morning to make sure we know it is tie to get up. He's been sharing his toys really well with Anna (the 16 month old) and Micah (3 years old), but it has only been one morning so far. He's growing into a kind soul and I am so proud when he is generous toward others. What more could a mommy ask?

Well, time to get a move on. I have a luncheon to attend at church in an hour. Until next time!

April 3, 2013

April showers bring May flowers. I sure hope it is true, because we've been getting rain non-stop since Sunday. I love the rain, but not all the threats of severe weather. Should be done after today though, at least for a while.

Happy belated Easter! He is risen! We had a wonderful camping trip again this year. William slept way better than last year, and other than the night our tent flooded with rain, the nights were pretty restful. We headed up Thursday afternoon and arrived in Tyler in time for William to go to bed. My family was so kind as to already have our tent set up, so we just had to move in and get settled. Francis and I got to meet Chad finally (my sister Christian's new boyfriend), and he seems very nice overall.

Friday after breakfast we hung around and played games enjoying the weather and nature. William loved the outdoors and the dogs. He even went on a canoe ride with Francis and decided on his own to take a swim on the shoreline. He's so goofy. We had the best steak for dinner and then got to participate in the sunset service on the shoreline with my parent's sunday school class. It was perfect and powerful. At the end of the night we had smores and reminisced about old times. I think poor Chad probably didn't want to know all that, but now he does!

Saturday morning we tried to rest after Christian, William and I ended up in my parent's camper then both our tents flooded at 4:30am. Francis held down the fort with the dogs and eventually got our tent under control. Apparently the "skylights" in the tent fly have now become water channels. Covering them with  a tarp fixed the problem, but it was a little too late. Danielle, Christian, Chad, my mom, Francis, William, Sarah and I dyed Easter eggs later that morning before lunch. It was fun and I got the deluxe kit, so we all had choices galore! After lunch and a nap, William got to do the camp-wide Easter egg hunt where he got a grand total of three eggs because he was to busy watching everyone else in awe. Don't worry though; he had his own private Easter egg hunt put on by the family and then had a second one with some eggs the "big girls" had left over from their hunt with the rest of our group. So William had 3 egg hunts in an hour and raked in the candy. Not to mention the tons of photographs that were taken. Saturday night we had our traditional Mexican food at Mercado's. It was delicious! William got to hang out with Sweetie and Papa which he found to be super exciting.

Sunday morning, just as we re almost finishing packing the car, we were informed that a storm was coming. With a bunch of rushing and all hands on deck, we were able to get everything put away and scramble into the camper just as the deluge began. We ended up having a service in the camper with just the family and Chad, but it was nice all the same. We had lunch at KFC/Long John Silver's for lunch before parting ways and all heading home. It was such a great and relaxing trip. I am so glad we went!

Yesterday I got tickets to snorkel/turtle watch and also to a luau. I am super excited to be heading to Maui in just 2 1/2 weeks. William will be vacationing with my parents and in-laws, but Baby P is obviously going with us. Please pray I will not feel too cramped on the long plane ride, and that it will all go smoothly. I can't wait to get on the beach and just relax! It will be amazing!
